PETERSEN MEDIA- Kerry Madsen continued his extended Spring Break trip in California over the weekend by putting together two very strong nights of racing in Chico, CA and Antioch, CA that saw “The Mad Man” pick up two third place finishes.

“It was a fantastic weekend for our race team,” Madsen said. “Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, CA is not one of my better tracks so to run very well there, and put together another strong night in Antioch, CA is awesome.”

The Mini Gold Cup on Saturday night in Chico, CA saw 44 cars check into the pit area, and Madsen got his night off to a very nice start as he earned quick time honors.

Lining up fourth in his heat race, the St. Marys, NSW product forged his way up to score a second place finish, and successfully transfer his Keneric Racing/American Racing No. 29 entry into both the Feature Event, and the Dash.

Finishing fifth in the Dash, Madsen would line his entry up in the third row for the 40-lap feature event. On a surface that was continuing to deteriorate, Madsen got off to a very strong start as he jumped into the third spot as he chased after Daryn Pittman and Donny Schatz.

An early restart saw Madsen move into the second spot, before he took the lead from Schatz on a lap 18 restart. Once out front the track began to take rubber as the lead pack found lapped traffic. Trying to maneuver in traffic, the battle up front heated up as he and Schatz went toe-to-toe again, and Schatz would ultimately put Madsen back in the second spot.

In the closing laps, Madsen would battle with Tanner Thorson for the second spot, and Thorson would squeak by and take the spot, as Madsen ended his night on the podium.

Heading to the Antioch Speedway on Sunday night, a track that he won a thriller at last Fall, Madsen got things started off by timing his machine in 12th fastest before winning his heat race in convincing fashion to garner a dash berth.

Following a third place finish in the Dash, Madsen would line up third in the feature event. On a very hooked up Antioch Speedway, Madsen would stalk the lead duo of Daryn Pittman and Paul McMahan, as he looked for an opening in lapped traffic.

On the 11th lap, Madsen was able to take the second spot from McMahan, but McMahan took the spot back a lap later as the top three continued to fight.

On a couple of occasions, Madsen tried to get both of the top two drivers in one corner, but narrow track conditions made any maneuvering extremely tough. Though he was relentless in his efforts, Madsen would close his weekend out with his second third place finish in as many nights.

“The boys worked hard all week long, and gave me a great car both nights,” Madsen said. “Podium finishes are awesome, and I hope we made the Gavranich family proud back in Australia, as well as our sponsors and manufacturers.”

2015 BY THE NUMBERS- Starts-30, Wins-6, Top-5’s-19, Top 10’s-25

ON TAP: Madsen will get this weekend off before returning to action on Wednesday, April 8th at the Placerville Speedway in Placerville, CA.
