PETERSEN MEDIA: One year removed from winning the Hunt Magnetos Wingless Sprint Car Title, Austin Liggett has successfully added another series championship to his resume as he claimed the 2018 USAC West Coast 360 Series Championship on Saturday night in Santa Maria, CA.

“The race didn’t quite end like we had hoped, but our body of work proved to be good enough to capture the USAC West Coast Championship,” Austin Liggett said. “It was a fun year, but we still have some more work to do.”

Saturday night in Santa Maria, CA, Liggett set out to finish off the series title as he kicked the night off by timing the Excel Environmental Services/Lucas Oil/Hurst Fabrications backed No. 83 machine in third quickest in qualifying time trials.

Lining up in the second row of his heat race, the Tracy, CA product would flex his muscle early in this one as he advanced to finish in the second position putting him in the second row for the final USAC West Coast 360 feature event of the 2018 season.

When the race came to life, Liggett quickly jumped into second and closed in on the race leader as he looked to put an exclamation point on a great season. Getting into traffic early, a slower car would force Liggett into the back stretch wall on the fifth lap and it would bring his night to an early end.

Luckily a strong season to date gave Liggett enough cushion that he was still able to hang on and capture the series title.

“It wasn’t the way we wanted it to end, but still grateful for my team and all of our help that we could pull this off,” Liggett said. “Looking forward to some big races coming up to end our 2018 season.”

Austin Liggett Racing would like to thank Excel Environmental Services, Lucas Oil, Hurst Fabrications, Infinity Shocks, 4 Alarm Promotions, Epic Fire Apparel, and Jarrett Soares Racing for their support.

2018 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-19, Wins-3, Top 5’s-12, Top 10’s-13

ON TAP: Liggett will take this weekend off but is scheduled to travel to Perris Auto Speedway on October 20th to get some laps prior to the Oval Nationals.
