PETERSEN MEDIA: Making the long trip south to Perris Auto Speedway, Austin Liggett would be rewarded for his efforts by way of a fourth place finish with USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series.

“Our night kind of got off to a so-so start, but my dad and Matt Wolter really went to work and gave me a good car in the feature,’ Austin Liggett said. “About halfway through the ‘A’ we really came to life and made it a good night.”

With 27 cars checked in for the event as the series ran alongside the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Sprint Car Series, Liggett would get the night off to a nice start as he timed the Excel Environmental Services/Liggett Trucking/Tool Technology sprinter in seventh fastest in time trials.

In a spirited battle for the final transfer spot I heat race action, Liggett would find himself on the outside and looking in before a second place finish in the semi propelled him into the feature event on what was a slick surface on this night.

Lining up eight I the feature event, Liggett would bide his time during the first portion of the race, until a bit of fuel load off the car really allowed him to start maneuvering on the changing track conditions.

Slicing and dicing his way through the lead pack that was riddled with Perris Auto Speedway veterans, Liggett would soon find himself in the Top-Five and looking for more.

Briefly getting into third, Liggett thought he may save something for the lead duo, but as the track continued to change he would stall out inside the Top-Five.

As the laps clicked off, and the race ultimately concluded, Liggett would cap his night with a fourth place finish.

“We came alive late in the race, and I thought we might have something for the leaders,” Liggett admitted. “The track seemed to change lap after lap, and late in the race it really slicked off and we kind of settled into fourth and rode it out. Big thanks to my dad and Matt for really working hard and dialing the car in.”

Austin Liggett Racing would like to thank Excel Environmental Services, Liggett Trucking, Tool Technology, Hurst Fabrications, Maxwell Industries, Shine Photography, and Morris Motorsports for their support.

2019 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-6, Wins-1, Top 5’s-4, Top 10’s-4

ON TAP: Liggett is tentatively scheduled to make the trip to Bakersfield Speedway on Saturday night to pilot the Mona Liggett owned midget with the USAC Western States Midget Series.
