PETERSEN MEDIA: With the 2016 season officially in the books, Lucas Ashe is pleased to announce that his Lucas Ashe Racing team has reached an agreement with Harley Van Dyke and Van Dyke Motorsports for the 2017 season.
“First and foremost I need to thank Brent Kaeding and everyone at Kaeding Performance for all they did for my family and I during the 2016 season,” Ashe said. “I learned so much racing with them, and look forward to putting that to use in 2017. We have another great opportunity in front of us, and I am excited to work with Harley Van Dyke this coming season.”
With Van Dyke Motorsports running Lucas Ashe Racing in 2017, the Cottonwood, CA driver will still be aboard the familiar LAR No. 33 machine that he piloted to a fifth place finish with the Ocean Sprints presented by Taco Bravo in 2016.
With schedules still being finalized at this time, the tentative plan for the team will see the 16-year-old driver hit roughly 50 races along the West Coast competing with both the 360ci and 410ci power plant bolted into his machine, and running with various sanctioning bodies.
“I am very much looking forward to working with the Ashe family,” long time car owner and crew chief, Harley Van Dyke said. “It is always fun to work with a young up and coming driver, and we are hoping we can continue to help him evolve in his second year in a full sized sprint car.”
While Van Dyke will oversee and run Lucas Ashe Racing in 2017, he still has plans to run his Van Dyke Motorpsorts No. 5h when the LAR team has scheduled off nights.
“Once schedules get finalized we will sit down and put together a schedule that the Ashe’s feel comfortable with, but until then we will continue to gear up for a very busy season,” Van Dyke added.
