PETERSEN MEDIA- Though early in the Knoxville Raceway point season, Ian Madsen is making his case as an early season favorite as he backed up last week’s win with a second place finish on Saturday night.

“We are getting around Knoxville Raceway really well right now, and are off to a good start there,” Ian Madsen said.

Following a fourth place finish on Friday night at the Jackson Nationals, Madsen and the KCP Racing team came out hot Saturday night as the St. Marys, NSW driver timed the Logan Contractors Supply Inc./Aspen Aire/Royal Flooring backed No. 18 entry in third fastest of the 22 entrants in the pit area.

Lining up sixth in his heat race, Madsen had an extremely strong showing, as he was able to carve his way through the field and finish in the third spot.  Lining up on the front row of the feature event, Madsen would get the jump as the field was shown the green flag.

While Austin McCarl and Brian Brown challenged in the opening lap, Madsen was able to keep them at bay as he began to open his lead up during his quest for his second consecutive win at the Marion County half mile.

Continuing to lead the way, Madsen would approach lapped traffic as the race reached the halfway point and it would allow Brown a chance to cut into Madsen’s lead.

On the 12th lap, things would change as the caution would fly and give the leaders a clear track. The restart would see Brown slide up in front of Madsen though Madsen would unsuccessfully counter his rival’s move.

Riding in the second spot in the race’s final eight laps, Madsen would hang on to snare his second consecutive podium in the 410 division at Knoxville Raceway as he sits second in track points.

“We were really good in the race, and that restart just saw Brown get one on us and it stuck,” Madsen said. “It stings a little, but we will take our runner up finish and try do better this weekend. This KCP Racing team has a lot of confidence right now, and this car is fun to drive.”

Ian and his KCP Racing team would like to thank Logan Contractors Supply Inc., Aspen Aire, Royal Flooring, Bobcat, Team Kline Electric, Greenland Homes, Team Excavating, TammyHeckart.com, Finer Cuts Lawn and Landscape, Des Moines Area Roofing, Quality Traffic Control, Bergen Paulsen, Coverage Direct, Monarch’s, and Revolution Race Gear for their support this season.
