McMahan Eighth at Wilmot Raceway

PETERSEN MEDIA: Putting a tough stretch behind them, Paul McMahan and Destiny Motorsports had a really good night at Wilmot Raceway on Saturday night that resulted in the team finishing eighth.

“We were really good Saturday night,” McMahan said. “We went quick time, won our heat and the dash, and ran inside the Top-Five all night until a late restart. It sucks to back it up at the end, but it was a good night for us after the stretch we had been on.”

Saturday night in Southern Wisconsin, McMahan got his night off to a great start as he earned his first quick time award of the year aboard the MonDak Portables/Ft. Union Supply and Trading/Champion Brand Lubricants No. 4 machine.

Starting on the pole of his heat race, the California native turned Nashville, TN resident continued to flex his muscle as he picked up the win and proceeded to move into the nightly Dash.

With the inversion draw going his way, McMahan would line up on the front row of the Dash and pick up that win and put the Destiny Motorsports sprinter on the front row of the 40-lap feature event.

At the waiving of the green flag, McMahan would drop back to second as he raced wheel-to-wheel with Brad Sweet fighting for the lead. As he tried to match Sweet’s each and every move, McMahan would continue to hold down the second spot until falling to third on an early restart.

Running in third, McMahan would chase after the lead duo of Sweet and Gravel as he then had his hands full with Shane Stewart who charged after the final position on the podium.

Just after the race’s halfway point, McMahan would slip back to fourth where he would run as the top-three battled hard in front of him. A late race restart would bunch the field back up, but McMahan would get caught in no-man’s land and slip back to the eighth spot where he would finish.

“We got a little free at the end of the race, and I got hung out on the last restart, and we lose a few spots,” McMahan said.

Friday night in Hartford, MI, McMahan would open the night up by timing in seventh fastest in qualifying time trials. Going from third to second in his heat race, McMahan would move into the Dash where a fifth place finish lined him up in the third row of the feature event.

Struggling to make grip on the slick speedway, McMahan would slip back early in the race and make a couple trips to the work area to try and get his car better during caution flags. Unable to get the car to make grip like he would hope, McMahan would finish back in the 19th spot.

“The guys are continuing to work hard, and hopefully we can build off of the Top-10,” McMahan said. “We show speed at times, but we just need to put a full night together and get this car up front for Rick and Barb Rogers, and everyone who supports this deal.”

Destiny Motorsports would like to thank MonDak Portables, Ft. Union Supply and Trading, Champion Brand Lubricants, All Star Performance, KSE Racing Products, FK Indy, HRP, KPC, PPM Titanium, Chalk Stix, Wilwood, Keizer Wheels, Simpson, Petersen Media, My Race Pass, Speedway Engines, FK Rod Ends, Boss Signs and Graphics, Classic Ink, Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, Hoosier Tires North, and BulterBuilt for their continued support.
