Mid-Race Contact Drops Cole Macedo to 15th in Final Trophy Cup Standings

PETERSEN MEDIA- Cole Macedo had a strong weekend going at the Trophy Cup in Tulare, CA, but mid race contact with the Thunderbowl Raceway wall knocked Macedo out of 5th in the running order, and ultimately relegated him to a 15th place finish in the final point standings.

“We had great speed all weekend long, and I hate that our weekend ended how it did,” Macedo said. “The guys worked so hard, and I wish I could have at least been there battling for the race win late in the 50-lapper.”

Getting his weekend off to a great start on Thursday night, Macedo timed the Tarlton and Son Inc./Complete Parts & Equipment Solutions/Executive Auto Sales backed No. 21 in second fastest in his qualifying flight.

Lining up in the third row of his heat race, Macedo was focused on picking up as many positions as he could as he was in the drivers’ seat to transfer into the feature event based on his qualifying efforts. Finishing fourth, Macedo was indeed locked into the opening night feature event as he rolled off the starting grid from the 10th position as he was third in event points.

On an extremely racy Thunderbowl Raceway surface, Maceod had his elbows up as he marched forward and added to his point total with each move he was able to make.

When the dust settled on the 30-lapper, Macedo finished in fifth, and sat fifth in points as he then attempted to better that point performance on Friday night.

While he didn’t time in as well as he did on Thursday night, Macedo was 11th fastest but put on a show in his heat race as he ripped the rim and locked into the preliminary night feature as he picked up the win.

Sitting eighth in points on Friday night, Macedo took the green flag from the fifth starting spot in the feature event, but it was a short lived race. Heading into turn one on the opening circuit, a car spun in front of Macedo and as he made contact with the stalled car, he endured contact form another car and it put an end to his night.

Using his Thursday night efforts and point total for Saturday’s finale, Macedo got off to a solid start as he advance to a fifth place finish in his heat race, and put himself 7th in Trophy Cup points heading into the inverted feature where he lined up in the 14th starting position.

A solid start to the final feature of the weekend saw Macedo work into eighth on the second lap where he ran until the fuel stop at the halfway point. Jumping into fifth when the race came back to life, Macedo continued to run strong inside the Top-Five until he clipped the wall on the 32nd lap.

Heading to the work area, the Tarlton Motorsports crew thrashed to get him back on the the racing surface, but the race resumed with them still working. Making repairs, the crew was able to get Macedo back on track at the next yellow, but the Lemoore, CA driver was five-laps down.

Doing what he could in hopes of picking up a couple of extra spots in the points standings, Macedo was able to finish the race and ended up 15th in the final points rundown.

“I just caught the fence wrong in the feature and it bent our front end up,” Macedo said. “It was a bummer way to end, but it’s easy to do at the Thunderbowl. Big thanks to Drew and the guys for their hard work, as well as the Tarlton and Dyson families for their generous support.”

BY THE NUMBERS: Races: 61, Wins: 5, Top 5’s: 13, Top 10’s: 26.

ON TAP: Macedo will be right back in action this Saturday night as he travels to Kern County Raceway Park with the NARC/KWS Series.
