PETERSEN MEDIA: Returning to battle with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour on Saturday night in Stockton, CA for the Jimmy Sills Classic, mid-race contact would cause damage to Tiner’s entry and would ultimately end his night early.

“It was a bit of a tough night on Saturday,” Steven Tiner said. “We were a little off all night, and then we had some contact just after the halfway point that essentially ended our night.”

Timing the Larry Davis Farms/Wright Process Systems/Fisher Racing Engines No. 94 entry in 23rd quickest overall, Tiner would end up fifth quickest in his individual group which lined him up in the third row of his heat race.

From his fifth starting position, Tiner would record a fourth place finish which moved him directly into the feature event where he would roll off the starting grid from the 18th starting position.

On a tricky surface that made things a little narrow, Tiner would get off to a slow start as he fell back as far as the 23rd spot in the race’s opening laps. Settling in, Tiner would take advantage of some restarts as he would work up into 15th on the 11th circuit.

Continuing to battle, the Visalia, CA driver would soon find himself up in the 13th spot and looking for more. While racing in a tight pack, contact to the left rear corner of his machine would force him to come to a stop and go back to the work area on the 18th lap.

With some damage apparent, Tiner would opt to restart and make do with what he had. Hanging on for about six laps, Tiner would retire for good on lap 24, as he would be scored with an 18th place finish.

“We took advantage of some things and were in contention to get in the Top-10, but we endured a little damage that ended our night,” Tiner said. “It has been a tough couple of nights to start the season, but we started this way last year. Placerville this weekend to open the point season up should be a great time. As always, thanks to everyone that helps out and supports the STR 94.”

Steven and his Steven Tiner Racing team would like to thank Larry Davis Farms, Wright Process Systems, Fisher Racing Engines, SRP, Wilwood, FSR, XYZ Machine, DMI, Dan Olson Race Products, HRP, Kevin Sharrah Designs, Prior Engineering, B&B Racing Engines, ART, System One Pro Ignition, Sweet Manufacturing, Schoenfeld, and Roseville Precision for their continued support.

2018 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-4, Wins-0, Top 5’s-0, Top 10’s-1

ON TAP: Tiner is scheduled to take part in Placerville Speedway’s regular season opener on Saturday night.
