Nunes Records First Top Five Finish Of Season

0544

PETERSEN MEDIA: Following a weekend of rain, Seth Nunes returned to the helm of the potent Van Lare Motorsports No. 5v machine on Friday and Saturday night where he finished fifth at the Silver Dollar Speedway on Friday night before issues knocked him out of a potential Top-Five on Saturday night at the Petaluma Speedway.

“It was a really good weekend for our team, and it did a ton for my confidence,” Seth Nunes said.

Checking in at the Silver Dollar Speedway for the 9th Annual Bill Brownell Memorial, Nunes got his night started off by timing the Napa Auto Parts/Lucas Oil/VSR backed No. 5v machine in ninth fastest during time trials.

Picking up a fourth place finish during his heat race, the Medford, OR driver would line up in the third row of the feature event. On a very racy track, Nunes turned in a strong performance as he ran in the Top-five during the duration of the feature event.

Getting up into the fourth spot during the feature, Nunes would be in pursuit of Kyle Hirst for the third spot. While looking for third, Nunes would soon feel pressure from a surging Andy Forsberg and late in the race Forsberg would drop him back into the fifth spot where he would go on to finish.

Making the trip to the Petaluma Speedway on Saturday night, a track that his car owner and crew chief knows all to well, Nunes would turn in another strong qualifying efford that saw him seventh on the speed chart.

Winning his heat race, Nunes would line up fifth in the 25-lap feature event, and just like he did on Friday he was able to work his way forward.

Getting into the fourth spot when the race got underway, Nunes would chase after Chase Johnson while Geoff Ensign chased after him.

Getting into the third spot on the seventh lap, Nunes would continue to chase after Johnson while the lead pack found themselves in thick traffic during an extending green flag run.

Late in the race, Nunes would feel something go south in his suspension, and he would bring his machine to a stop just three laps short of the finish line, and his night would come to a close.

“We had a good car both nights, and I have to thank Jim Van Lare, and everyone that helps out on this car,” Nunes added. “We will take this weekend off and come back when the Civil War Series hits Marysville (CA) and Chico (CA) over the Memorial Day weekend.”

Seth would like to thank Napa Auto Parts, Lucas Oil Products, VSR Steering Repair, Bianchi Farms, Cameron and Cameron Vineyard Supply, CCI, and Awesome Racewear for their support in 2016.

ON TAP: Seth and the Van Lare Motorsports team will be off this weekend before retuning to action on Memorial Day weekend with the Civil War Series during the Mel Hall Memorial at Marysville Raceway and the Silver Dollar Speedway Fair Race.

2016 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-8, Wins-0, Top 5’s-1, Top 10’s-2
