PETERSEN MEDIA- Looking forward to the California swing following a good showing in Las Vegas, NV last week, Gio Scelzi and his Roth Motorsports team would have a tough Saturday night in Tulare, CA that ultimately ended after getting involved in an opening lap tangle.

“It was just a tough night for us from start to finish,” Gio Scelzi said. “Thanks to Dennis and Teresa Roth and all of my guys for their efforts all night. Now we will focus on a new weekend.”

With 33 cars in attendance on Saturday night, Scelzi opened the night up by timing the Roth Enterprises/Jason, Tara, and Cole Roth Cattle Co. No. 83jr in 21st quickest in time trials, putting him in an early hole.

Battling with brother, Dominic, as well as Rico Abreu in heat race action, Scelzi would slip back and finish eighth and be forced into the night’s Last Chance Showdown.

Taking the green flag from the third starting spot, Scelzi would look to maintain and earn one of the four transfer positions into the 35-lap feature event. Slipping back to fourth when the green lights flashed on, Scelzi would feel pressure from Parker Price-Miller, while he chased after Chad Kemenah for the third position.

Able to get Kemenah for third, Scelzi would give himself a little breathing room as he would search around the Thunderbowl Raceway in preparation for the 35-lap feature event.

By way of his third place finish in the LCS, Scelzi would take the green flag from the 23rd starting position. Trouble would strike in front of Scelzi on the initial green flag attempt and he would get a piece of the action.

While the damage seemed minimal, Scelzi would restart the race, but the damage to his nosewing would prove to be a little more substantial and he would pull the Roth Motorsports machine into the infield as he would get credited with a 22nd place finish.

“It wasn’t the night we wanted to have in Tulare, but it is part of it,” Scelzi added. “We will get back to work and look to have a good two nights this weekend. Again, thanks to Dennis and Teresa Roth, and everyone that works on this car.”

The Roth Motorsports team would like to thank Roth Enterprises, HR Livestock Transportation, Jason, Tara, And Cole Roth Cattle Co., Roth Investments, FK Rod Ends, Weld Wheels, Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, Kent Performance, Kaeding Performance, and Smith Titanium for their support in 2019.

BY THE NUMBERS: Races: 3, Wins: 0, Top 5’s: 1, Top 10’s: 1.
