Pair of Podiums For Austin McCarl

PETERSEN MEDIA: Austin McCarl has been on fire the last month since the weather has started to cooperate in the Midwest. This past weekend was no different as McCarl ran second at Knoxville Raceway on Saturday night and backed it up with a second-place finish on Sunday night at Huset’s Speedway.

“It was a really good weekend for us,” Austin McCarl said. “We’d like to be one spot better both nights, but two second’s is good, and we will look to do it again this weekend. Big thanks to Weldon Offill and everyone involved with Country Builders Racing.”

Going out late for time trials on Saturday night in Knoxville, IA, McCarl timed the Country Builders/Ochoco West/Walkers/Kolthoff Electric backed No. 88 in ninth fastest.

Lining up fourth in his heat race, an untimely yellow would lead to a restart that McCarl didn’t need as he would finish fourth. Not having the nightly points total he was hoping for leading into the feature, McCarl rolled off of the starting grid from 10th.

Getting off to a good start, McCarl would take advantage of a couple early restarts that allowed him to gain several positions as he became a contender as the laps clicked off.

With the leaders getting into traffic, McCarl was able to pounce as he kept his momentum up and surged into the second position as he chased after Aaron Reutzel.

As the Justin Clark checkered flag waived, McCarl capped off his night with, yet another monster run through the field as he climbed from 10th to finish second.

Sunday night the scene shifted to Huset’s Speedway where McCarl had his elbows up in time trials and earned the quick time award.

Racing to second in his heat race, ‘The Big Unit’ earned a berth into the nightly redraw where the ‘three’ placed him in the second row of the feature event.

On the slick surface, the Altoona, IA driver would slip back a few positions as he searched around the speedway for grip.

Rolling his top wing back to help himself back traction, McCarl would come to life as he worked his way back through the Top-Five.

Getting into second very late in the race, McCarl had little time to chase after race leader, Gio Scelzi. Closing in on Scelzi, time would run out as McCarl closed his weekend out with a second runner up finish.

“We get better every weekend, and I know our first win is around the corner,” McCarl said.

Austin McCarl and Country Builders Racing would like to thank Country Builders, Ochoco West Lumber, Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, Walkers, Tucker Trucking, Kolthoff Electric, MAAS Brothers Powder Coating, Offill Family Farms, Stealth Cam, Bosma Family Farms, Muddy, HRP, Penske Racing Shocks, A.R.T.
