Pair of Runner Up Finishes Highlight Busy Weekend of Racing for Tanner Carrick

PETERSEN MEDIA: In action Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, Tanner Carrick managed to run double-duty on two of those nights and when it was all said and done two second place finishes highlighted is efforts.

“It was a really busy weekend for our team, and I could not have done with it without everyone who stays involved with us working so hard,” Tanner Carrick said. “Our 360 was really good all weekend, and our 410ci we had up and down nights. I also had the chance to hop in a Midget at Stockton on Sunday, and we had a really good run with the Hot Head Heaters team.”

The madness for Carrick and company got underway on Friday night at Ocean Speedway in Watsonville, CA. Continuing to show support to the Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds facility, Carrick earned fast time honors aboard the CVC/Cemex/CA Waterfowl backed No. 83T entry.

Going from fourth to second in his heat race, the Lincoln, CA driver moved into the 30-lap ‘A’ Main where he took the green flag from the outside of the second row.

Getting into third when the race came to life, Carrick made a misstep that cost him a spot on the podium as he fell back to fourth. As the race went on, Carrick could not quite pick up any positions to get to the podium as he closed out the night finishing fourth.

Traveling ot Tulare, CA on Saturday night, Carrick competed with both the King of Thunder 360ci’s as well as the Northern Auto Racing Club (NARC) 410ci series.

A tough go in the NARC part of the race ultimately came to a close with Carrick scoring a 15th  place finish. In 360ci action, he was in contention all night long.

Timing in third quick in time trials, Carrick’s second place finish in his heat race put him on the front row of the feature event.

When the feature went green, Carrick jumped out to the early lead as he set a nice pace on the 1/3 mile banked bullring. Battling with Dominic Scelzi, Carrick continued to lead the way until Scelzi snuck past him on the 12th lap.

Falling back to second, Carrick continued to chase after Scelzi who overtook him for the race’s top spot. Unable to get by the veteran, Carrick secured the second-place finish at the stripe.

Sunday, the scene shifted to Stockton, CA for another NARC race and also a BCRA Midget event as Carrick teamed up with Pete Davis for the night.

With 20 410ci cars on hand for the NARC portion of the event, Carrick timed in third fastest in qualifying time trials.

Lining up in the second row of his heat race, Carrick worked his way to a second place finish which ensured him a berth in the Dash. Starting fourth in the Dash, Carrick earned a spot better in the feature event starting lineup as he finished third.

On a very tricky track surface that through much for a loop, Carrick jumped into second when the race went green as he chased after early leader, Billy Aton.

Running second, Carrick closed in on Aton as the race neared the halfway point. As Carrick looked to make his move, trouble struck as Aton lost power and left Carrick with nowhere to go and heavy contact ensued which brought Carrick’s night to an end.

Sunday also saw Carrick in action with the Pete Davis team in BCRA Midget action.

Timing the No. 00 in fourth fastest in qualifying, Carrick was impressive in his heat race as he advanced from the third row and scored the win on the slick surface.

Lining up sixth in the feature event, Carrick got off to a bit of a slow start as he ran in sixth for much of the main event. In the race’s closing laps, Carrick was able to make a few moves as he jumped up to second when the race came to a close.
