Part Failure Knocks Cox Out of Toller Memorial

PETERSEN MEDIA: Justyn Cox had an up and down night at the Marysville Raceway on Saturday night during the 2015 season opener, though he showed great speed towards the end of the night, a part failure with nine laps to go in the feature event would knock him out of contention.

“We have a lot of new parts, and components, so it took us a little bit to get where we wanted to be, but we really showed some great speed later in the night,” Justin Cox said.

With the track slowly getting better as qualifying went on, Cox’s early draw was less than desirable as he timed in 13th fastest amongst the 25 drivers checked in, just missing the heat race inversion.

Lining up in the third row of his heat race, Cox could not do much on the locked down track surface, as a sixth place finish would put him in the B Main, where he would ultimately find himself on the front row.

Cox would take advantage of the extra laps to get his machine dialed in, and he did just that as he dominated the race, and nearly set a new track record in doing so.

Taking the win, Cox would move to the feature event where he lined up 16th in the feature event. Just like he did in the semi, Cox continued to show speed as he navigated his way around the heavy Marysville Raceway surface.

When the caution flew on the seventh lap, the Clarksburg, CA driver had already cracked the top-10 as he sat in the eighth spot.

As the race resumed, Cox continued to work his way forward, and got into the sixth spot and began battling with Willie Croft and Andy Forsberg for a spot in the top-five until the caution halted progress on the 16th lap.

Under caution, Cox had a part fail on his machine, and he was forced to retire from the event.

“I really have to thank Rod, Kyle, Brent, Eric, Nick, my dad, and my grandpa for all of their help and support,” he added. “We definitely got better as the night went on, and now all we can hope for is to get any parts failures out of the way early.”

The Cox Racing team would like to thank Berco Berry Redwood Lumber, PM Truck Repair, LRB, JRI Shocks, Konnected, Sacramento Theatrical Lighting, College Cyclery, JRD Endeavors, VSR, ART, Axcel Race Suits, SafRacer.Com, K&N Performance, Justice Brothers, Cheetah IV Racing, E-ST Garage, Worton Designs, Manzer Motorsports,  and Tim’s Hot Rod Shop for their support in 2015!

2014 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-1, Wins-0, Top 5’s-0, Top 10’s-1

ON TAP: Cox will now head to Sin City to take on the World of Outlaws in Las Vegas, NV on Wednesday and Thursday night before heading back to Chico, CA this weekend for the Silver Cup.
