PETERSEN MEDIA- Getting two nights of racing in during the Memorial Day Weekend, Price would finish third during a thrilling feature event on Saturday night at Skagit Speedway before finishing fifth on Sunday night at the Marvin Smith Memorial in Cottage Grove, OR.
“It was a really good weekend for our team,” Price said. “We got going really good on Saturday night in Skagit, and on Sunday we used a late fuel stop to our advantage and drove up to finish fifth.”
Checking in at Skagit Speedway in Alger, WA on Saturday night, Price opened the night up by timing the Millstone Heating and Sheet Metal/Wheeler Paint Works/Rod End Supply backed No. 21p sprinter in second fastest in qualifying time trials.
Advancing from fourth to third ruing his heat race, Price would then line up in the third starting position for the feature event.
Getting the green flag, Price would slip back to the fourth spot. Running fourth in the race’s opening laps, Price would use traffic to his advantage as he was able to get by Brandon Harkness to take over the third spot.
Chasing after Evan Margeson and Colton Heath, Price would seem to get stronger as the laps clicked off. Looking to make some late race magic happen, Price would make a slight mistake in traffic and it would let the lead duo pull away just enough to knock him out of contention as he settled for a third place finish at the line.
Making the trip south to Cottage Grove Speedway in Cottage Grove, OR to take part in the annual Marvin Smith Memorial, Price would keep his strong weekend going as he timed in eighth fastest in time trials.
By way of his fourth place finish in the Dash, Price would make himself eligible for the Dash and his fifth place finish lined him up in the third row for the 41-lap feature event.
Getting into the fourth spot when the race came to life, Price had a good run going in the early stages of the race as he chased after Justyn Cox who ran third just head of him.
As the laps clicked on, Price’s machine would start to get loose on the slick surface and he would fade a little.
Sitting in the eighth spot when the red flag flew on the 25th lap, Price and company topped the fuel tank off hoping the fuel load would tighten them back up for the final 16-laps.
The strategy worked for Price, as he was able to pick up some spots in the final laps, as he closed his weekend out with a fifth place finish.
“We were really good early on during Sunday’s race, but we got a little too loose as the race moved along and track slicked off,” Price said. “We did all we could on the fuel stop, and it worked out.”
Price and his team would like to thank Millstone Heating and Sheet Metal, Wheeler Paint Works, Rod End Supply, Wildlight Photography, and Shark Racing Engines for their support during the 2017 season.
