PETERSEN MEDIA: Taking part in a pair of USAC National Sprint Car Series events over the weekend in Bloomington, IN and Haubstadt, IN, Robert Ballou would endure some bad luck on Friday before putting on a furious charge on Saturday night.
“Friday night we got ran over early in the race and came back to finish about where we started, and on Saturday we got off to a slow start but recovered to finish inside the Top-10 in the feature.”
Checking in at Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, IN Saturday, the Rocklin, CA native would get his Spring Showdown off to a tricky start as he timed the Dickinson Farms/Lucas Oil Products/Abreu Vineyards backed No. 12 entry in 24th fastest in time trials.
Lining up on the pole of his heat race, Ballou would settle for a second place finish which was good enough to put him in the 30-lap feature event. Finding himself deep on the starting grid on this night, Ballou would take the green flag from the 10th row.
From the back of the pack, Ballou would get his elbows up as he started working his way forward on the bullring. Seeming to pick up cars lap after lap, Ballou would find himself in the Top-10 as the laps clicked off.
Battling with the likes of Kody Swanson, Justin Grant, and Chris Windom, ‘The Mad Man’ would cap his weekend off with a charge from 20th to seventh.
Friday night also saw Ballou and company in action at Bloomington Speedway in Bloomington, IN. Timing in 17th fastest on the lightening fast ¼ mile, Ballou would pick up the win in heat race action.
Moving directly into the feature event, Ballou would take the green flag from the 16th starting position on this night. Working to get his car better for the feature event, things would not go well for Ballou when the race came to life.
Three laps into the race, contact from another car would knock the steering out of the Dalton’s Waterfront Service/Rossie Feed and Grain/Unique Breedz entry and would see Ballou head to the work area.
Able to make repairs, the former series champion would restart from the tail end of the field. Still aboard a battered car from the incident, Ballou would drive his machine as hard as he could as he was able to work his way back up to finish 17th.
“Friday night was kind of a struggle all night,” Ballou added. “We are still trying to get back on the same page with everyone and all these rainouts have made it tough to get things figured out. We will keep working and try again this weekend.”
Robert Ballou would like to thank Dickinson Farms, Lucas Oil Products, Abreu Vineyards, Deaton’s Waterfront Service, Rossie Feed and Grain, Unique Breedz, Suburban Subaru, Jamie Davidson Scrap Metal, Twister-X, Hinchman Indy, Don Ott Racing Engines, Manvel Motorsports, Boss Chassis, Blakesley Auto, Olson Custom Design, Konnected Clothing, Hooker Harness, Indy Race Parts, Hoosier Tire, Schoenfeld Headers, ISC Racers Tape, Chalk Racing Products, Keizer Aluminum Wheels, Saldana Racing Products, and Bell Helmets for their support.
