PETERSEN MEDIA: Justyn Cox and his Cox Racing team had quite the night on Saturday night at the Ocean Speedway in Watsonville, CA as an errant slide job in the B Main would send Cox and company home early.
“We went out extremely late in time trials, and it set the tone for the rest of our night,” Cox said. “We had some really good speed in the heat and the B, but unfortunately a failed slide-job attempt sent us into the wall and upside down.”
Timing in 26th fastest, Cox would line his Berco Redwood/Berry Lumber/Trex backed No. 31c machine up in the last row of his heat race, needing to finish in the Top-Three to transfer into the feature event.
Finishing sixth, Cox would be forced into one of the twin B Main events, where he would find himself in the fourth row of the 12-lap affair, with only the Top-2 finishers moving on.
Putting together a strong run in the B, Cox would work his way up to battle for a transfer spot. Banging into the thick cushion in three and four, Cox would lose a little ground as he ran in the fourth spot.
The ensuing lap a fellow competitor would close in and look to take Cox’s position in turns one and two, and contact would result in Cox getting upside down, and force him into the night’s Last Chance Showdown.
Track prep prior to the LCS would see the Ocean Speedway hook back up for the 10-lap race, and Cox would end up pulling on the seventh lap as it was too narrow to move forward from the back.
“It was a frustrating night, but I have to thank my team for showing so much resolve,” Cox said. I also have to thank Fibreworks Composites and Arai Helmets for doing their jobs and proving to be the best helmets and seats on the market.”
