Sanders Scores Trio of Podiums in Northwest

PETERSEN MEDIA: Following the King of the West Series into the Pacific Northwest over the Memorial Day Weekend, Justin Sanders would land on the podium during all three nights of competition.

“We were right there every night, we just couldn’t get to the top of the podium,” Justin Sanders said. “The nice things about getting up there is none of from CA have a ton of laps logged at those places so it is a pretty level playing field. We were just not quite as good as we hoped and needed to be.”

Checking in at Southern Oregon Speedway on Thursday night to kick the trip off, Sanders timed the Farmers Brewing/Mittry Construction/North County Plastering mount in third fastest in qualifying time trials.

Racing to a second-place finish in his heat race, Sanders would finish third in the Dash which lined him up in the second row of the feature event.

Running in the third position, Sanders would move into second when race leader, Mitchell Faccinto ran into issues. Lining up with Dominic Scelzi for a restart, Sanders would take a couple of shots for the race lead, but it was to no avail as he ran second on this night.

Traveling north to Lebanon, OR on Friday night, Sanders would continue to flex his muscle in the Pacific Northwest as he timed in fastest in time trials on this night.

Going from fourth to second in his heat race, Sanders would finish fourth in the Dash and again found himself in the second row of the feature event.

The track on this night was extremely dominant around the bottom and passing proved to be tough.

Settling into third, Sanders would pressure for second but with conditions making it tough, he would hang on to close the trip to Oregon out with a third place finish as the weekend brought on a trip to Washington.

Following a rain out on Saturday, Sunday night saw the Aromas, CA driver kick the final night of the trip off by timing in sixth quickest in qualifying time trials.

Racing to a win in his heat race, Sanders would tally enough points for the Dash where a win in that race put him on the pole of the final feature event of the trip.

When the green flag waived, fellow front row starter Trey Starks won the drag race into turns one and two as Sanders found himself in second.

The stint in second wouldn’t last long as Dominic Scelzi moved by and dropped Sanders into third as the trio of standouts worked around the slick Grays Harbor Raceway surface.

Following an early restart, Sanders would hit the bottom lane to perfection as he got back by Scelzi and turned his attention back to Starks. While Sanders was able to close in, Starks proved to be too good on this night as Sanders closed his podium filled weekend out a third-place finish after Scelzi got by him later in traffic.

“It was one of those races on Sunday where I couldn’t get into rhythm and it hurt us,” Sanders said. “Overall, it was a good week up here, but we have a little work to do before we get back after it in a few weeks.”

Justin and his team would like to thank Farmers Brewing, Mittry Construction, North County Plastering, Alkaline88, Andy’s Construction, Roadside 24hr Service, Wicked Cushion, Roger’s Diner, Factory Kahne, BG Labels and Tee’s, Walker Performance Filtration, Dixon and Son Tires, Ernie’s Service Center, East Lake Village, FK Rod Ends, Triple X Race Co., DMI, Keizer Wheels, Wings Unlimited, Ti64 Titanium, AIS Heating and Sheet Metal, Fred Lint and Family, JonSan Racing, Sandblast Service, G&N Construction, Steitz Towing, Durden Construction, Ernie’s Service Center, and Steve Duppman Racing for their continued support in 2022.
