PETERSEN MEDIA- Making his debut in the Van Lare Motorsports No. 5v machine over the weekend with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour, Sean Becker and team would race well  as Becker landed on the podium with the traveling series on Sunday night in Petaluma, CA.

“Friday night was kind of a tough shakedown night for us,” Sean Becker said. “I needed to do a better job for the team, and when I got going it was too little too late, but I really feel it led us into a very successful Sunday.”

Drawing the last starting position in the first heat race on Friday night in Merced, CA, a narrow racing surface made passing difficult. Finishing ninth in the heat, Becker would move to the ‘B’ aboard the Pro Aggregate/Bianchi Farms/All About Fire Protection backed No. 5v machine.

Lining up 16th, ‘The Shark’ had his work cut out for himself as only the Top-3 would move into the feature event. Giving it a valiant effort from the back of the pack, Becker would carve his way forward as much as he could in 15 laps. Gaining eight positions, Becker closed his night out with an eighth-place finish in the semi.

Heading to Petaluma Speedway on Sunday, Becker and company had confidence heading into the night as it is the home track for Van Lare Motorsports, and a track that Becker won at during his last visit in 2019.

Again, drawing last in his heat race, Becker was able to pick up a few positions on this night as he would gain points by working his way forward and up to a fifth-place finish.

Advancing into a qualifier, Becker would take full advantage of the front row starting position. Powering to the important win, the added points put the Roseville, CA driver in the third row for the 30-lap feature event.

Getting off to a nice start, Becker would get into fourth and start to challenge Andy Forsberg for the final podium position as the two California stand outs battled it out.

With Forsberg able to keep the position, Becker would hound his rival as Forsberg took the lead and Becker moved into second just after the race’s halfway point.

A lap 25 restart saw Forsberg bounce through a rut and Becker was there to pounce as he jumped into the race lead only to see an unrelated yellow negate his pass and move him back to second.

The next restart saw Becker look to make a move on Forsberg, and as he used the high line in turns one and two it would open the door for Shane Golobic to take the runner up position.

Unable to chase Golobic down in the final pair of laps, Becker would close the night out on the all California podium with a third place finish.

“Fun weekend with Jim and Annette Van Lare and their team, and a big thank you to Jim Van Lare for making all the right calls,” Becker said. “We had a car very capable of winning on Sunday, and it is a little heart breaking to be that close to winning a National Series race and not be able to close it out. With that being said, we are all excited how the night went, and how competitive we can be during the year ahead.”
