PETERSEN MEDIA: Sean Watts got off to a tough start on Saturday night in Hanford, CA, but the Atwater, CA driver kept fighting and wound up working his way forward and finishing 12th at the Cotton Classic.

“We were not very good early in the night, but in the ‘B’ things seemed to come together and that resulted in a decent run in the feature,” Sean Watts said. “We got going really well in the opening laps of the feature, and everyone else started to figure it out as well and we ended up coming form 19th to finish 12th.”

Timing the Grizzly Coolers/Schaeffer Racing Oil/Rolfe Construction No. 98 entry in 18th quickest in time trials amongst the 30 cars that were in attendance on Saturday night, Watts would find himself in heat race No. 2.

Running fifth in his heat race, Watts would be forced into the night’s ‘B’, where he would need to finish inside the top-six to keep his night alive. Racing to a third place finish, Watts would successfully qualify for the Cotton Classic feature event, but had his work cut out for him lining up 19th on a very rough surface.

When the green flag was displayed to the field, Watts was one of the first to hit the bottom and really start working his way forward. In just a few laps the youngster had worked into the 12th spot just before the first caution flag of the night flew.

Getting up towards the Top-10, Watts would battle with the likes of Matthew Moles and Craig Stidham as the trio of drivers battled for 10th. On a late restart, Watts would jump a fellow competitors right rear and lose a couple of spots as the race came back to life.

Able to fight back and pick up lost positions, Watts would take the checkered flag with a 12th place finish.

“I was really happy with how the car felt in the B and the A,” Watts added. “It was nice to work hard all night and see it pay off. I am bummed we aren’t running Trophy Cup this week, but I am still looking forward to this week and being a part of a great event.”

Sean and the Watts Rolfe Speed-Sports team would like to thank Grizzly Coolers, Schaeffer Racing Oil, Rolfe Construction, Billet America, Darrel Varni Electric, Kaeding Performance, Shannon Pumps, Stealth Homes, Tee’s and Tops, Team Simpson, Kistler Racing Engines, and Stan Yockey Motorsports for their continued support.
