PETERSEN MEDIA: Working so hard over the years, Sean Watts was finally able to joy the fruits of his labor as he broke through and scored his first King of the West Series win on Saturday night in Stockton, CA.
“It is still surreal,” Sean Watts said. “Pretty cool to finally get one of these wins, and I can’t thank this entire team for what they do for me.”
When the night got underway, Watts kicked things off by timing the Grizzly Coolers/Maxima Racing Oil/Billet America backed No. 98 machine in seventh fastest in time trials.
Able to pick up a heat race win, Watts would take some good fortune and advance to the Dash where the win put him on the pole for the 25-lap feature event.
Leading the field to green, Watts would look very strong out front as he worked around the rough Stockton Dirt Track surface. Able to get through the rough stuff better than others, Watts would continue to keep the field at bay as he led the way.
A late restart saw DJ Netto close in on Watts and look to battle for the lead, but Watts showed that he was the class of the field on this night as he nailed turns one and two and gapped Netto.
With Ed Entz waiving the checkered flag, Watts would be the first one to it as he capped the night with his first career win with the series.
“We have had some ups and downs as a team, and this is definitely an up,” Watts said. “Really cool to get a win as we get into a busy stretch, so hopefully we can continue to run well. Thanks again to everyone that supports.”
