Second at Placerville Highlights Three-Race Swing for Colby Copeland

PETERSEN MEDIA- Piloting the Econo Lube-n-Tune & Brakes No. x1jr entry for a trio of races over the Independence Day weekend, Colby Copeland would highlight the stretch with a second place finish at Placerville Speedway on Saturday night.

“Saturday night we were really good and ran second, Sunday night we had an oil gauge break on the 15th lap, and on Monday we just kind of missed it and struggled,” Copeland explained.

The busy swing kicked off at the ¼ mile bullring Placerville Speedway on Saturday night where the Roseville, CA driver would time in fourth fastest during qualifying time trials.

Running third in his heat, Copeland would move into the feature event, and also punch his ticket into the redraw where he would grid the field from the second row.

When the race came to life, Copeland would settle into the third spot as he chased after the lead duo of Steven Tiner and Justyn Cox. As the two leaders got to battling on the fifth lap, Copeland would close in but could not quite get to them.

Continuing to run third, a late caution would shake the running order up a bit. As the field came back to green, the leaders would make contact, and it would result in Copeland taking over the second spot.

Running second the final eight laps, Copeland would hang and finish second on this night.

Heading to Stockton, CA on Sunday night to battle with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour, Copeland would race his way to a heat race win and transfer into the feature event where he would line up in the fifth row.

On a track that took rubber extremely early, Copeland would run inside the Top-10 early on as passing was at a premium. Lap 15 would prove detrimental for Copeland as an oil gauge would fail and it would force him to take his machine back to the pit area.

Petaluma Speedway was the scene for Copeland’s third and final race of the week on Monday night, and he would get the night started by finishing third in his heat and again transfer the Econo Lube-n-Tune & Brakes entry directly into the feature event.

Lining up third in the Dash, Copeland would finish in the second spot and sit on the front row of the 40-lap feature event as he would look to get one spot better than the last time the series visited the track.

Settling into the second spot when the race came to life, Copeland would spend the first 10-laps chasing after Ryan Bernal as they worked around the Petaluma Speedway in thick lapped traffic.

A restart on the 10th lap would see Copeland lose a few spots as he would slip back to the fourth spot before another stoppage on lap 12. As the laps clicked off, Copeland would seem to struggle to maintain his track position as he slowly slipped back to finish 13th.

“It was good to run up front Saturday, and then Sunday night we just had some bad luck, but with the way the track was we were probably going to run 10th or so,” Copeland noted. “Monday night we had a good night going, but we just kind of missed it in the feature and fell back. Thanks to the F&F guys for all of their hard work.”

Copeland and F&F Racing would like to thank Econo Lube-n-Tune & Brakes, and CRV Carbon Solutions for their support in 2017.
