PETERSEN MEDIA- Shane Hopkins had himself one heck of a night at Placerville Speedway on Saturday night. Getting upside down in his heat race, Hopkins would make a late move in the ‘B’ to make the feature event where he would then work his way forward to finish 14th.
“It was a long night, but my guys never quit and we turned a bad night into a decent one and even moved up into third in the point standings,” Shane Hopkins said.
Admittedly struggling in time trials, Hopkins would end up 24th fastest in time trials aboard the Moxie Mechanical/Morrison Concrete/TNT Powdercoat No. 97 entry. With his work cut out for himself for the rest of the night, the Cameron Park, CA driver would get himself into trouble in his heat race as he would get into the cushion to hard and get his entry upside down.
Going to the work area, the Moxie Motorsports team, with help from others, would make repairs to Hopkins’ entry and he would be able to restart as he would come away with a sixth place finish but would be forced into the ‘B’ Main.
Starting deep in the semi, Hopkins would work his way forward on the extremely slick racing surface as he got up near a transfer position in the waning laps of the race. Challenging Mason Moore for the final transfer, Hopkins would get by him and punch his ticket to the Mark Forni Classic feature event.
Lining up scratch on the field, Hopkins would get off to a bit of a slow start on the extremely slick Placerville Speedway surface. With some cars dropping out in front of the Rookie of the Year contender, Hopkins would take what he could get as he took the checkered flag with a 14th place finish.
“I really have to thank everyone that helped us out all night long,” Hopkins said. “It wasn’t our best night, but it was nice to see what we were made of with some adversity in front of us. Thanks to Vern and my partners for all their support and we are looking forward to this weekend’s event.”
