PETERSEN MEDIA: Looking to take advantage of some momentum gained over the last couple of weekends, Visalia, CA pilot, Steven Tiner, picked up a sixth place finish with the California Civil War Series Presented By Flowmaster on Saturday night at the Placerville Speedway during the 9th Annual Mark Forni Classic.
“We had a really good car, and our result probably doesn’t show how good we were, but we raced hard all night long and just came up a little short,” Tiner said.
With 34 cars on hand for the prestigious race at the Placerville Speedway, Tiner kicked his night off by timing his Larry Davis Farms/Wright Process Systems/BR Motorsports No. 94 entry in 13th fastest.
Starting on the front row of his heat race, Tiner took advantage of the prime spot, and went on to pick up the win, and earn a berth in night’s dash.
Pulling the eight pill in the dash draw, Tiner would finish in the same spot, and line his King Racing Products/Elma Lanes/Harvest Supply backed entry up in the fourth row of the 30-lap feature event.
As the race got off to a slow start with stoppages slowing the early flow of the event, Tiner was able to work his way into the top-five as he battled with Jonathan Allard, Justin Sanders, and Cory Eliason.
Continuing to run in the fifth spot, a pair of late cautions saw double file restars come back into play, and Tiner battled with Jonathan Allard in the closing laps as they both went after the fourth spot.
In the midst of their hard battle, Justin Sanders was able to sneak under Tiner, and at the stripe Tiner came home with a sixth place finish.
“There were a lot of restarts, and that changed the complexion of the race a ton,” Tiner explained. “We were in a tight pick from third-sixth all night, and the way things went, we just ended up in the sixth spot. We were good, so we will keep digging and move on to next week.”
