PETERSEN MEDIA: Tanner Carrick would climb aboard his family sprinter on Wednesday night at Chico, CA’s Silver Dollar Speedway and pick up a 17th place finish with the Civil War Series during the opening night of the Gold Cup Race of Champions.
“It was good to get to Chico, and put it in the show with the Civil War Series,” Tanner Carrick said. “There was a ton of cars there so it was good to get through our heat race.”
A total of 44 cars crammed into the Silver Dollar Speedway pit area to open up this historic event, and Carrick would kick things off by timing the CVC/Cemex/Interstate Oil backed No. 83T machine in 22nd quickest in qualifying time trials.
Lining up sixth in his heat race, the Lincoln, CA driver was able to make some moves on the racy ¼ mile speedway as he worked his way into the fourth and final transfer position. Hanging on, Carrick would finish in the position and move on to the 30-lap feature event.
As the track continued to slick off during the non-wing feature event, track crews went out before the 30-lapper and reworked the surface to give the drivers something to race on rather than a track that was on the verge of taking rubber.
With the track being fast in the early laps, Carrick would hold his own as he battled Chico, CA locals Chase Majdic, and Kyle Hirst. As the race continued on, the track would open up and he would move around as he worked over the ¼ mile.
Able to grab a few spots, Carrick would close his night out with a 17th place finish.
“It was another decent night for us in the sprint car, and I am looking forward to getting back in it this Saturday night in Placerville, CA.”
