PETERSEN MEDIA- Saturday night, Tony Gualda and C&M Motorsports made the trip to Chico, CA’s Silver Dollar Speedway to take part in the 26th Annual Fall Nationals, Tribute To Stephen Allard to end the 2018 season at the Silver Dollar Fair Grounds. Leading laps early in the race, Gualda would find himself hanging on for dear life with a broken shock late in the race as he scored an eighth place finish.
“Saturday night had the makings to be a great night, and in the end it was another good night for our race team,” Tony Gualda said. “We had speed all night long, and we led some laps early in the race. Unfortunately a late race restart drew some contact to our left rear and it broke our shock and I just held on as best I could.”
Timing the Moorefield Construction, Inc./Hollister Auto Parts/PitStopUSA backed No. 7C machine in sixth quickest in his qualifying group, the youngster would make some late heroics happen in his heat race as he would get the final berth into the Dash at the checkered flag.
Lining up seventh in the Dash, the Hollister, CA product would go to work on the bottom of the speedway as he raced his way to a fourth place finish and would take the green flag for the 40-lap finale from the out side of the second row.
On a technical Silver Dollar Speedway racing surface, Gualda would showcase a strong C&M Motorsports prepared entry as he would forge his way into the race lead on the ninth circuit.
Out front, Gualda would soon find himself in traffic and under attack from both Sean Becker and Kyle Hirst. As the duo battled hard in traffic Gualda would actually fall to third amidst the intense battle.
Keeping the leaders in his crosshairs, Gualda would then feel pressure from Justyn Cox for the third position and hook up in another great battle on the track. Sitting back in fifth on a late restart, Gualda would endure contact into his left rear and it would result in a broken shock.
With the handling on his machine going away quickly with the damage, Gualda would do a great job of holding on to bring his machine home with an eighth place finish.
“It got a little hairy there with no left rear shock,” Gualda admitted. “I felt like a sitting duck, but we had a good enough car to still hold on and finish eight. I really want to thank Cody and Mandi, and everyone on their team for letting me have some fun and race on Saturday.”
The C&M Motorsports team would like to thank Moorefield Construction, Inc., Hollister Auto Parts, PitStopUSA, PT Shocks, Swartz Diesel, Alturas Tires, and all of their product sponsors for their continued support.
ON TAP: Gualda and C&M Motorsports are will make the trip to Petaluma Speedway on Saturday night for the Adobe Cup.
