PETERSEN MEDIA- To many, the Dave Bradway Jr Memorial is a big race that they would love to win for the prestige, the honor, and the lucrative payday. To Willie Croft, the race pays homage to his father-in-law’s late friend, and has a special meaning to it.
“The Bradway is a huge race that I would love to win,” Croft said. “Jr was a close friend to the Hirst family (Croft’s In-laws), and I would really like to win this race for the family.”
With the race meaning so much to so many, drivers often sneak in a race or two at the Silver Dollar Speedway in the weeks leading up to the event, and for Croft, he made an appearance at the Silver Dollar Speedway on Friday night.
20 cars checked in for the Bill Brownell Memorial, and Croft timed his Holey Smokes BBQ/ButlerBuilt/Brown and Miller backed No. 29 machine in second fastest. Lining up in the second row of his heat race, the Roseville, CA driver would finish in the fourth spot, and earn a spot in the redraw.
With his atrocious luck in redraws continuing, Croft again found himself in the fourth row of the feature event, as he pulled the seven pill. On a tricky surface, Croft would fight a loose racecar, as he held his spot inside the Top-10 for the duration of the race.
Hooking up in battles with Sean Becker, and Robbie Price through the course of the event, Croft would work his way into the sixth spot, where he would go on to finish in a tune up for this weekend’s Dave Bradway, Jr Memorial.
“We just were not very good in the feature event,” Croft said. “Part of the reason to come up was to try some things, and it just did not work out. We have another tune up on Friday night before the big show on Saturday, and we will do what we can to make sure we are in contention for the win.”
