PETERSEN MEDIA: Returning to action with USAC on Friday night at Red Hill Raceway, Robert Ballou had a strong night that resulted in a fourth-place finish.

“Friday night I qualified well for a change, and had a really good battle for the lead going,” Ballou said. “Unfortunately, I took a rock off my injured arm and from that point I was just holding on and waiting for the race to end.”

Timing his Suburban Subaru/Deaton’s Waterfront Service/Berks Western Telecom, Inc. backed No. 12 in fourth fastest in time trials, Ballou went on to score a fourth-place finish in his heat race.

When all heats were completed and the inversion was settled, the Rocklin, CA driver rolled off the starting grid from the inside of the second row. As the feature event came to life, Ballou quickly jumped into second before taking command of the race lead on the fifth circuit.

Continuing to lead the way as laps clicked off, Ballou had a little bad luck at the halfway point as a rock got into his injured arm and changed the way he was up on the wheel.

Getting into an entertaining battle with Justin Grant for the top spot, Ballou admittedly was counting down laps as he hung on the best he could.

Dropping back to fourth in the closing laps, Ballou was able to keep his mount in the Top-5 as he took home a fourth-place finish.
