Ryan Bernal 2nd at Santa Maria Speedway
PETERSEN MEDIA: Fresh off of a third-place effort at the Howard Kaeding Classic, Ryan Bernal and the Josh Ford Motorsports team stayed hot as Bernal was back on the podium Saturday night in Santa Maria, CA where he finished second with NARC.
“It was great to back up last week’s third place run with another solid night,” Ryan Bernal said. “The track was super fast and we were able to pace (eventual winner) Kaleb Montgomery, I just couldn’t quite get to him to do anything.”
Checking in at Santa Maria Speedway on Saturday night, Bernal timed the NOS Energy Drink/Inland Rigging/MPe backed No. 73 in fourth fastest in time trials which put him on the pole of his heat race.
Getting the jump when heat race action went green, Bernal paced the field for all eighth laps and scored the win to lock himself into the all-important Dash.
Drawing the one in the redraw, Bernal led the field to green for the six-lap shootout. When the Dash came to life he slipped back to second as he chased after Kaleb Montgomery. Hanging on to finish second, Bernal was on the front row for the 30-lap feature event as he chased after his first NARC wins of the year.
When the 30-lap finale went green, Bernal saw the same fate as the Dash as he settled into second and chased after Montgomery. Keeping pace with Montgomery, Bernal looked for lapped traffic to make his move, but as fate would have it caution flags flew when traffic came into the mix.
Attempting to wrestle the top spot away on a few restarts, Bernal just couldn’t quite get enough momentum built up to make anything work. Running in second for the duration of the feature, Bernal capped the night off with his second consecutive podium run with the series as he and the JFM team now turn their attention to the Summer High Limit swing in CA that kicks off on August 15th.
“We have been rolling really well the last few weeks, and I hope we can keep it up with the High Limit swing quickly approaching in CA,” Bernal said. “Thanks to Jimmy, and all of the JFM guys for their hard work on the 73 night in and night out.”
