Ryan Bernal Nets Pair of Top-10’s with JFM
PETERSEN MEDIA: Ryan Bernal and Josh Ford Motorsports were back in action over the weekend in Chico, CA where Bernal picked up 7th and 10th place finishes at the Mini Gold Cup.
“Overall it was a pretty good weekend,” Ryan Bernal said. “Starting position is always so crucial is 410 winged racing so once we can dial the start of the night in I think we will be really good.”
Friday night the action kicked off at the Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, CA with Bernal timing in 10th quickest with 29 cars checked into the pit area to open up the Mini Gold Cup.
Lining up in the second row of his heat race, the Holister, CA native picked up a third place finish in the NOS Energy Drink/Inland Rigging/MPe backed No. 73 mount and locked into the feature event.
Gridding the field from the 10th starting spot, the feature proved to be tricky as a rough and heavy racing surface greeted the field with a few large ruts making the action interesting in turns one and two.
Over the course of the 30-lapper, Bernal tired several lines to avoid some of the treacherous surface that saw many drivers bike up and get their cars on two wheels.
Able to keep the rubber side down for most of the night, Bernal capped the opener off with a seventh place finish.
Saturday night ran under NARC sanction with a strong payday up for grabs to go along with the Mini Gold Cup lore. A total of 32 cars made the call on this night and Bernal opened things up by timing in 11th fastest in his qualifying flight as he missed the heat race inversion.
Lining up sixth in his heat, Bernal was able to make up some ground on a surface that was extremely slick with a huge curb building up early in the night. Making his way to fourth, he locked into the feature event, though still had plenty of work to do as he took the green flag from the 17th starting position.
With the track allowing a little more passing action in the 40-lap feature, Bernal had his elbows up as he went work pedaling the bottom the track and times, and pounding the curb at times as well.
Showcasing a very versatile Jimmy May prepared entry, Bernal was able to battle his way into 10th when the race came to close.
“Big thanks to Jimmy and all of the JFM guys for working hard all weekend long,” Bernal said. “Excited to continue running together and building off of the early season speed.”
JFM would like to thank NOS Energy Drink, Inland Rigging, MPe, SURECAN, Woodland Auto Display, Beilman Motorsports, and 1Way Technologies for their support in 2025.
BY THE NUMBERS: Races: 7, Wins: 0, Top 5’s: 1, Top 10’s: 3
ON TAP: Bernal will be idle this weekend before returning to action with the NARC series resumes next week in Tulare, CA.
