Saturday Night Runner Up Finish Highlights Busy Weekend for Tanner Carrick

PETERSEN MEDIA: A busy weekend in Placerville, CA saw Tanner Carrick do double duty both Friday and Saturday night at the NorCal Posse Shootout. Tallying Top-10s in each feature event, a runner up finish in non-winged action on Saturday night highlighted the weekend for the Lincoln, CA driver.

“We had great cars in both divisions all weekend, and that is a testament to my guys,” Tanner Carrick said. “Saturday night in the non-winged feature, I was hoping we could stay in traffic a bit longer because I really felt we were gaining on the leader.”

Following 6th and 7th place finishes on Friday night, Carrick kicked Saturday night off by timing his non-winged car in second fastest in his qualifying group. Lining up on the front row of his heat race, Carrick was able to get off to a great start as he powered his way into the lead.

Picking up the heat race win, he moved into the feature event where he took the green flag from the outside of the second row. Following some work done to turns one and two prior to the feature going green, much of the field worked the high side of the speedway when the action got underway.

Running in fourth, Carrick found himself in third on the 12th lap after second and third got together just in front of him. Racing into second on the 14th lap, Carrick closed in on Max Mittry as they raced in heavy traffic. Able to cut into the lead, a late yellow put Carrick on his rear bumper, but it gave Mittry open track ahead.

With Mittry able to get away in the closing laps, Carrick capped the race off with a runner up finish.

In Saturday night winged action, Carrick got off to a nice start in time trials as he timed the CVC/Cemex/Interstate Oil backed No. 83T entry in seventh fastest amongst the 22 cars that were checked into the pit area.

Taking the green flag from the front row of his heat race, Carrick took advantage of lining up on the outside lane and jumped into the early lead. Hanging on to score the win, Carrick moved into the nightly Dash where a fifth-place finish put him in the third row of the 30-lap feature event.

The feature event quickly became top-dominant with much of the field running the cushion around both ends of the speedway which created little to no passing.

Holding down the fifth spot for much of the race, a late restart saw Carrick try to make something happen and pick up a few more positions, but his plan didn’t come to fruition as he slipped back to a sixth-place finish.

“The top got really fast in the winged feature and it was hard to make up ground once we got going,” he added. “I tried something on a late restart, but it didn’t quite work how I had hoped.”

Tanner Carrick would like to thank CVC, Cemex, Interstate Oil, D.R. Horton, Conti, Harris and Sloan, Hanson Truss, TC Guide Service, Eddie’s Lincoln Auto Body, Simpson Strong-Tie, A&A Concrete Supply, Kaeding Performance, and Arai for their continued support.

BY THE NUMBERS: Starts: 17, Wins: -0, Top 5’s: 5, Top 10’s: 9
