Sean Becker Second at Champions Classic Before Fighting for Bradway Top-10
PETERSEN MEDIA- Spending the weekend at Silver Dollar Speedway as the famed Dave Bradway Jr Memorial returned to the track it started at for the first time since 2019, Sean Becker picked up a second-place finish on Friday night and charged his way to a sixth-place finish during Saturday’s finale.
“I was really happy that we were in a position to win the race on Friday night, I am just a little bummed I didn’t quite move around soon enough and lost the lead late,” Sean Becker said.
The weekend came to life on Friday night for the ‘Champion’s Classic’, and Becker kicked the party off by timing the Bjork Construction No. 7B entry in ninth fastest in time trials.
Putting himself on the front row of his heat race, Becker quickly put his right rear on the Silver Dollar Speedway cushion when the green flag waived and powered into the lead. Picking up the win, Becker earned a spot in the redraw where the one-pill put him on the pole of the feature event.
With the race getting off to a tumultuous start, Becker was finally able to jump into the lead once things got into rhythm following a lap two restart. Battling with Dominic Scelzi, Becker slipped back to second on the eighth lap as the field worked around the famed ¼ mile.
The bottom groove stayed extremely fast during the 30-lap finale and it didn’t allow any openings for Becker to challenge for the top spot as he closed Friday night out with a runner up finish.
Returning to the speedway on Saturday night for the Dave Bradway Jr Memorial, Becker timed in 21st quickest after going out extremely late in the qualifying session.
Finishing sixth in his heat, the Roseville, CA driver made a stop in the ‘B’ where the win moved him into the 40-lap feature event as he rolled off the starting grid from 21st.
In a very eventful feature event, Becker stayed extremely smooth and patient as he worked his way forward. Taking advantage of numerous restarts, Becker worked his way into the Top-10 and even approached the top-five.
When the checkered flag finally flew, Becker closed his run out with a sixth-place finish.
“Saturday night we got off to a bit of a slow start, but I was really happy that we were able to pass so many good cars, and come away with a good result,” Becker said.
BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-8, Wins-0, Top 5’s-2, Top-10’s- 6
