Tanner Carrick 6th at Mini Gold Cup
PETERSEN MEDIA: Suffering a part failure on Friday night that saw him drift from third back to 11th in the feature, Tanner Carrick and team rebounded on Saturday night to overcome an expired engine in the Dash and record a sixth place finish in the Mini Gold Cup feature event.
“I feel like we have had a ton of speed with the 410ci, but part failure and little issues keep holding us back from getting our first 410ci win of the season,” Tanner Carrick said.
Carrick and company checked in to Chico’s Silver Dollar Speedway Friday night for the annual Mini Gold Cup event.
Friday night saw 29 cars check into the pit area as Carrick timed the CVC/Cemex/California Waterfowl backed No. 83T entry in seventh fastest in time trials.
Lining up on the front row of his heat race, the Lincoln, CA pilot mashed the throttle when the Bob Scovel green flag was displayed to the field and raced out into the early lead.
Leading from flag to flag, Carrick was safely in the feature event and was also locked into the nightly redraw that set the first four rows of the starting grid.
Pulling the three, Carrick lined up in the second row for the Prelude to the Mini Gold Cup feature event.
As the feature event came to life in a very fast and rough racing surface, Carrick settled into third as he navigated the tricky terrain.
In part to the rough surface, Carrick would endure a broken shock stud on his car and it would make the second half of the trace tricky as the handling became difficult with the track surface.
Slowly fading back, Carrick capped the night off with an 11th place finish.
Returning to the track on Saturday for the Mini Gold Cup finale, Carrick got off to a fast start as he timed in fastest in his time trial flight and lined up fourth in his heat race.
Simply needing to transfer to earn a spot in the Dash, Carrick’s third place finish checked that off the list as the three pill lined him up in the second row of the six-lap shootout.
Moving into second in the Dash, Carrick soon came to a stop on the back stretch as engine issues forced him to stop, and led to his team working quickly to swap powerplants before the feature event.
Able to make the call with fresh power, Carrick took the green flag from the outside of the fourth row and was able to make some moves on the slick surface that was offered up on Saturday night.
Bouncing between eighth and seventh for much of the race, Carrick worked his way into sixth on the 32nd lap, and held the spot over the final eight markers as he capped the weekend off with a Top-10.
Tanner Carrick would like to thank CVC, Cemex, California Waterfowl, Interstate Oil, D.R. Horton, Conti, Harris and Sloan, Hanson Truss, TC Guide Service, Eddie’s Lincoln Auto Body, Simpson Strong-Tie, A&A Concrete Supply, Kaeding Performance, and Arai for their continued support.
BY THE NUMBERS: Starts: 14, Wins: 1, Top 5’s: 5, Top 10’s: 8
