Tanner Carrick Runs Sixth at John and Robbie Padjen Classic

PETERSEN MEDIA: Traveling to Chico, CA over the weekend for the 72nd Gold Cup Race of Champions, Tanner Carrick kicked the festivities off with a sixth-place finish during the John and Robbie Padjen Classic on Wednesday night.

“We got our Gold Cup week off to a pretty good start on Wednesday night,” Tanner Carrick said. “We did a good job on Thursday night making the show but then we were just a little off on Friday and Saturday night.”

Wednesday night saw Carrick get the night kicked off by timing the CVC/Cemex/TC Guide Service backed No. 83T entry in third fastest after going out last in his qualifying flight.

Lining up on the front row of his heat race, Carrick slipped to second as the field stormed into turns one and two. Holding the spot, Carrick punched his ticket into the opening night feature event where he lined up in the ninth starting position.

Running inside the Top-10 as the race came to life, a slight bobble saw Carrick fall back a few spots on the 16th lap but was able to work back up into 10th a lap later. Jumping into 9th on the 27th lap, Carrick then took over sixth on the 28thlap where he capped off the opener.

Thursday night shifted to High Limit action with a whopping 50 cars packed into the pit area. Going out 45th in time trials, Carrick ended up 42nd fastest in time trials.

Lining up 11th in his heat race, the Lincoln, CA driver had his elbows up and was drastically able to change the complexion of his night. Charging to a sixth-place finish, Carrick wasn’t able to earn a transfer directly into the feature event but put himself in position to transfer out of the ‘B’.

Taking the green flag from the fourth starting position, Carrick worked his way into third and kept his night alive as his third-place finish lined him up 23rd in the feature event.

As the feature event went green, the track soon started to take a little rubber as the field worked around the surface. With it taking rubber seemingly from the top of the track to the bottom of the track it still allowed for a little moving and shaking. Picking up a handful of spots from 23rd, Carrick took the checkered with an 18th place finish.

Having a rough Friday night, Carrick and company were back in action on Saturday where he got the night underway by finishing eighth in his heat race, which lined him up 14th in the ‘B’.

Needing to get into the Top-4 to continue on to the Gold Cup Race of Champions feature, Carrick gave it a very good effort but came up just short as he ended the weekend with a ninth-place finish in the ‘B’.

Tanner Carrick would like to thank CVC, Cemex, Interstate Oil, D.R. Horton, Conti, Harris and Sloan, Hanson Truss, TC Guide Service, Eddie’s Lincoln Auto Body, Simpson Strong-Tie, A&A Concrete Supply, Kaeding Performance, and Arai for their continued support.

BY THE NUMBERS: Starts: 43, Wins: -0, Top 5’s: 10, Top 10’s: 23
