Tanner Holmes Has Strong Week with High Limit Racing To Cap CA Swing
PETERSEN MEDIA- Continuing to battle with High Limit Racing as the series kicks off with a spring swing out West, Tanner Holmes and Tarlton Motorsports had a very strong week that saw them record a pair of top fives, and battled up front on Saturday night until a blown tire ended their week.
“It was a great week, and I am really proud of our team,” Tanner Holmes said. “We survived Tulare with a really solid finish, we were good all night at Kern County, and we raced hard and were battling for the lead Saturday until we blew a tire on the rubber down track conditions.”
The busy week with the national series kicked off on Wednesday night as Holmes and the team checked in at the Thunderbowl in Tulare, CA. Timing in fifth fastest in his qualifying flight, Holmes’ second place finish in his heat put him in the ninth starting position in the feature event.
Attacking the daunting Thunderbowl in the feature event, Holmes battled with some of the travelling stars lap after lap. Running fourth late in the feature event, the night nearly ended abruptly as contact with a lapped car sent Holmes into the wall on the race’s final lap.
Able to avoid disaster, Holmes was able to limp his entry around the track and finish in the fifth spot.
Making repairs to their car on Thursday, Friday night saw the scene shift to Bakersfield, CA as Kern County Raceway Park played host to High Limit.
Continuing to hold his own and flex some muscle against the series, Holmes timed the Tarlton and Son Inc./Executive Auto Sales/American Rock and Rent backed No. 21 entry in sixth quickest in time trials before powering to a heat race win.
Finishing seventh in the Dash, Holmes continued to show his grit in the feature event as he worked his way forward and back into the Top-Five. When the 30-lapper drew to a close, Holmes adapted to the track’s new configuration well as he finished in the fourth position on this night.
Saturday night the High Limit CA swing came to a close as Perris Auto Speedway hosted the final event of the week. Though not a track Holmes had competed at before, a track he felt confident about heading into after running well at Las Vegas the week prior.
Hitting the SoCal halftime in time trials, Holmes qualified well again as he timed in eighth quickest and lined up on the front row of his heat race. Securing the win, Holmes again found himself in the Dash where he ultimately lined up in seventh after the High Roller wheel was spun.
Showing that he would be one to watch in the feature, Holmes worked his way forward and finished fourth, putting him in the second row of the feature event.
The extremely slick track conditions appeared to be going away fast and a rubber down surface was on the horizon for the feature event. From the second row, it was imperative to get a good start and get as many positions as possible before the track locked down.
Moving into second when the race came to life, Holmes kept early leader, Aaron Reutzel in his sights as he stalked the Texas runner who led the way in the race’s early stages.
Showing a ton of speed early, Holmes had a monster run at Reutzel at the race’s halfway point and made a bid for the race lead only to see Reutzel counter his efforts as he continued on in second.
Over the next few laps, Holmes continued to run well until his right rear tire let go as the rubber continued to do down on the speedway.
With this tire issue, Holmes and team called it a night with a bit of a disappointing end to a great week.
“We were really fast all three nights, and that is a really cool feeling with how early it is in the season and how fresh our dynamic is,” Holmes added. It was a tough way to end our week, but in the big picture we know we are capable of running up front with these guys. I want to thank the Tarlton family and all of our sponsors for all they do, and all of the people who work on our car at the track and at the shop.”
Tarlton Motorsports would like to thank Tarlton and Son Inc., American Rock and Rent, Executive Auto Sales, Durst, Tarlton Estate and Asset Management, Bandy and Associates, FK Shocks, FK Rod Ends, Willwood Brakes, Vortex Wings, and High Performance Lubricants for their support.
BY THE NUMBERS: Races: 7, Wins: 1, Top 5’s: 3, Top 10’s: 3.
