Tony Gomes 11th at Silver Cup
PETERSEN MEDIA- Spending the weekend in Chico, CA at the Silver Cup, Tony Gomes and the C&M Motorsports team fought through some issues on Friday before tallying an 11th place finish in Saturday night’s feature event.
“It was awesome to get back to Chico, CA to open their season at the Silver Cup,” Tony Gomes said. “The C&M Motorsports team dealt with some issues on Friday but fought through them to have a solid Saturday night until we lost an engine coming to the checkered.”
Battling through some issues on Friday, Gomes and company returned to action Saturday night ready to rip on the ¼ mile nestled in northern California.
Timing in 13th fastest in qualifying time trials, the Modesto, CA driver started and finished fifth in his heat race which locked him into the 30-lap, $4000-to-win feature event.
On the slick Silver Dollar Speedway surface, Gomes was able to get the Lund Construction/Anrak/Sam Rhodes backed no. 7c entry moving forward. Working his way into the Top-10, Gomes continued to battle as he neared the Top-Five.
Getting into seventh during the latter stages of the race, Gomes was relentless in his efforts as he battled with some regional heavies.
Looking like he was on his way to taking the checkered in seventh, Gomes endured an engine failure coming to the checkered and slipped back to 11th as he coasted across the finish line.
“First off, it was a huge credit to my team for working so hard Friday night and having some pretty good speed on Saturday night,” Gomes noted. “I hated that we lost an engine there coming to the checkered, that is tough on any team. Aside from Cody and Bobby working hard all weekend, I am also thankful that Zach came out and helped us as well. Looking forward to regrouping and coming out strong at the Placerville opener on the 15th.”
