Tony Gomes 5th at Placerville Speedway
PETERSEN MEDIA- Getting right back to Placerville Speedway on Saturday night, Tony Gomes continued to stay hot at the bullring as he picked up a fifth place finish.
“It was a night where we were just a little off early, but raced well and ended up with another top-five,” Tony Gomes said. “Cody, and Bobby did a great job with the car all night and we will be ready to go in a few weeks when the season resumes.”
Timing the Lund Construction/Anrak/Sam Rhodes backed No. 7c entry in 12th fastest in time trials, the Modesto, CA driver lined up in the second row of his heat race.
Getting a good launch when the race went green, Gomes worked his way into second, where he finished, which then placed him in the fourth row for the 25-lap feature event.
When the race went green, Gomes was able to make a couple of quick moves as he found himself up in fifth in a matter of laps. A caution on the fifth lap bunched the field back up, and while had hopes of picking up even more track position he caught a rut and got out of sorts and fell back to eighth.
Gathering himself back up, Gomes was back into sixth on the ninth circuit as he vied for a way back into the Top-Five. Searching all around the ¼ mile bullring, Gomes found his way into fifth on the 23rd lap.
Once in fifth, Gomes held the spot for the final three laps and he closed the night out with his ninth Top-5 finish of the season.
“With how the last few weeks have been going, we had higher expecations for Saturday night, but I am proud of the fight we had, and the fact that we were good enough to move forward and get into the Top-5,” Gomes noted. “It is always a pleasure to drive for Cody and Mandi, and I am looking forward to resuming the points battle in a few weeks.”
