PETERSEN MEDIA- After a couple weeks of rough luck, Tony Gomes and the C&M Motorsports team had a solid Saturday at Placerville Speedway as the Modesto, CA driver tallied a fifth place finish.

“We have had a really good car all year, but issues the first two weeks kept us from finishing,” Tony Gomes said. “Unfortunately we had another issues on Saturday’s feature but I was able to maintain and pick up a solid finish for our team.”

With 35 cars on hand for the second points paying event of the season at Placerville Speedway, Gomes earned second quick honors in his flight which put him in a great spot for the rest of the night ahead.

Needing to transfer through his heat for a spot in the redraw, Gomes turned in some smooth laps as a third place finish was just what he needed.

Pulling the three in the redraw, Gomes and company were set to take the green flag from the second row in the Lund Construction/Anrak/Sam Rhodes backed No. 7c mount.

Settling into third as the race came to life, an early caution bunched the field back up. With the track extremely slick, Gomes went to make an adjustment under yellow and realized that his wing slider had failed giving him a bit of an obstacle to deal with for the rest of the race.

Despite his move sliding around on him while under green, Gomes was able to keep his machine solidly in the Top-5 as he capped the night off with a fifth place finish.

“Once I realized the wing slider failed under yellow, I knew I would have to focus on hitting my marks because the handling of the car was going to change with each lap,” Gomes added. “While I hate that we went backwards, I am happy we were able to still manage a really good finish despite the issues.”
