Tony Gomes Charges to 3rd at Placerville Speedway
PETERSEN MEDIA- Returning to Placerville Speedway on Saturday night a week removed from a disappointing Nor Cal Posse Shootout, Tony Gomes and the C&M Motorsports team were back to form as Gomes rolled to a third place finish in the feature event.
“It was great to have a fast car and a really smooth night on Saturday,” Tony Gomes said. “As we roll into summer, it is great to have some good momentum behind us with big races on the horizon.”
By way of the draw, Gomes was the last car out for qualifying time trials and still found speed on the slick bullring as he timed the Lund Construction/Anrak/Sam Rhodes backed No. 7c mount in sixth quickest.
Lining up on the pole of his heat race, the Modesto, CA driver mashed the gas when Darren Stahl’s green flag was displayed to the field and forged his way into the early lead.
The win was wildly beneficial for Gomes and company as it locked him into the redraw where the six pill placed him in third row for the 25-lap affair.
When the feature event came to life, Gomes was able to work his way forward as he battled hard in the Top-5 battling with the likes of Chance Grasty, and Justyn Cox as they all jockeyed for position on the racy surface.
A couple of late restarts bunched the field back up and it allowed Gomes to clear some of his competitors as he raced his way into third. Holding on to the final spot on the podium in the final laps, Gomes capped his night off with a third place finish.
“I know how bad Cody and Mandi want to win a Placerville Championship, and I know how hard it can be so I am doing my best to be the most consistent week in and week out,” Gomes said. “We want to win races, but I am really proud of how hard our team works, and thankful that Cody and Mandi continue to put me in a great position and thankful for how hard Cody, Bobby, John, and Cody Cook work for me.”
The C&M Motorsports team would like to thank Lund Construction, Anrak, Sam Rhodes, Alturas Tires, Swartz Diesel, Adrian Blanco Jewelry, Kings Meats, American Paving Systems, PT Shocks, Creason Enterprises, and all of their product sponsors for their continued support.
ON TAP: C&M Motorsports and Gomes are idle this weekend. The team returns to action over the Memorial Day Weekend at Chico, CA’s Silver Dollar Speedway. Gomes and company will reunite on the 30th at Placerville Speedway for the inaugural Davy Thomas Memorial.
BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-9, Wins-0, Top 5’s-3, Top 10’s-3
