Tony Gomes Lands on SCCT Podium in Merced, CA

PETERSEN MEDIA- After a season best Top-5 two weeks ago at Placerville Speedway, Tony Gomes and the C&M Motorsports team were able to keep up the car speed they have had all year as they ventured to Merced, CA on Saturday as Gomes picked up a third place finish with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour.

“After a couple of tough weeks to start the season our last two races out have been great, and Saturday was extremely smooth for our race team,” Tony Gomes said. “We timed in well, and took advantage of being in a great spot all night and ended on the podium.”

With 43 cars in the pit area on Saturday night, Gomes got off to a quick start as he timed the Lund Construction/Anrak/Sam Rhodes backed No. 7c in sixth quickest in his qualifying flight.

Lining up on the front row of his heat race, Gomes knew the importance of getting the jump and did just that as the green flag was displayed to the field. Racing into the lead, Gomes pocketed the win and punched his ticket into the High Sierra Industries Dash where a fourth place finish placed him in the second row for the 35-lap feature event.

After a quick track prep session prior to the feature event firing off, Gomes had a nice start as he powered his way into third on the exit of turn two and chased after Dominic Scelzi and Braden Chiaramonte who were battling for the top spot just ahead of him.

With action all over the high-banked bullring, Gomes made a move for second only to see a caution flag negate his efforts as the field was back in double file formation for an ensuing restart.

Settling back into third as the race came back to life, Gomes was patient as he waited for another opportunity to get back into second, as he did on the 21st lap.

A late restart didn’t fall Gomes’ way as he gave up the second spot and slipped back to third. Chasing after the lead duo of Scelzi and now Dominic Gorden, Gomes kept his entry on the podium as he finished in third.

“I had a nice battle with Max Mittry and Kaleb Montgomery late in the race and was able to fend them off and hang on to a podium spot,” Tony Gomes said. “It feels great to get Cody and Mandi Geaney another solid finish. They are great car owners and it is a pleasure to drive their car. I also want to thank Cody and Bobby for another night of hard work and putting a fast car under me all night long.”

The C&M Motorsports team would like to thank Lund Construction, Anrak, Sam Rhodes, Alturas Tires, Swartz Diesel, Adrian Blanco Jewelry, Kings Meats, American Paving Systems, PT Shocks, Creason Enterprises, and all of their product sponsors for their continued support.

ON TAP: C&M Motorsports and Gomes are right back to it this Saturday night in Placerville, CA.
