Tony Gomes Takes Placerville Speedway Point Lead With Sixth Place Finish

PETERSEN MEDIA- Returning to action with C&M Motorsports on Saturday night at Placerville Speedway, Tony Gomes ended up with a sixth-place finish in the feature event and in doing so took over the track championship standings by one marker with just two races left.

“It was a decent night for our team, but losing a couple spots on the last restart wasn’t what I wanted at all,” Tony Gomes said. “We didn’t get timed in well, but we put ourselves in a good position to have a good finish in the feature.”

With 23 cars on hand at the speedway on Saturday night, the Modesto, CA driver timed the Lund Construction/Anrak/Sam Rhodes backed No. 7C in seventh fastest in qualifications which ultimately placed him on the front row of his heat race.

Needing to win the heat to earn a spot in the redraw, Gomes gave it a valiant effort when the race went green but settled into second as the field raced through turns one and two.

Holding down second, Gomes would finish there as it locked him into the feature event as he found himself in the fourth row to start the 25-lap feature event.

Working his way into sixth when the feature event came to life, Gomes searched all around the bullring looking for a way into the Top-5 until the race’s first caution flew on lap 10.

The restart initially saw him slip back to eighth, but he quickly was back into seventh on the next lap as the race started to get interesting. Able to avoid some of the chaos that broke out, Gomes was in fourth in the closing laps.

A late restart saw a couple of cars get out of line early and get around Gomes coming to the final green flag, and in the end it he ended up finishing in the sixth spot. With the finish, Gomes now has the C&M Motorsports team atop the point standings by one digit with just two points paying races left on the schedule.

“I’m not quite sure what went down on that final restart, but it was a bummer to lose those spots, for sure,” Gomes added. “We will reset and refocus for these final two races as things tightened up. Big thanks to Cody and Mandi for believing in me, as well as to Cody, Bobby Bumgarner, Cody Cook, and Chris Bouchard for their help in the pits all night.”

The C&M Motorsports team would like to thank Lund Construction, Anrak, Sam Rhodes, MatriScope, Alturas Tires, Swartz Diesel, Adrian Blanco Jewelry, Kings Meats, American Paving Systems, PT Shocks, Creason Enterprises, and all of their product sponsors for their continued support.
