PETERSEN MEDIA: In a rare northern California double-header for the USAC West Coast 360 Series, Austin Liggett continued his strong 2017 campaign with the series as he pocketed another win on Friday night in Watsonville, CA before a fourth place finish on Saturday in Petaluma, CA.

“All in all it was a really strong weekend for our race team, and my guys worked extremely hard,” Austin Liggett said. “Maybe with some more time at Petaluma we could have grabbed a couple more spots, but I’m not sure we had anything for (race winner) Geoff Ensign.”

Liggett got things started on Friday night at Ocean Speedway by timing the Excel Environmental Services/Liggett Trucking/Lucas Oil backed No. 83 entry in fifth quickest amongst the 21 cars checked into the pit area.

Getting into an early tangle in heat race action after lining up in the second row, the Tracy, CA wheelman would have his elbows up from the back of the pack as he worked back up to finish second and keep his spot in the feature event inversion.

Finding himself on the front row of the 30-lapper, Liggett would fall back as far as third on the race’s initial start but a tangle would negate it and give him another shot.

When the race finally went green, Liggett would get the jump as he began to go to work on the bottom of speedway. Using the low and middle grooves on the ¼ mile, Liggett would do a great job as he led all 30-laps and went on to pick up his ninth win of the season overall.

Saturday night the scene would shift to Petaluma, CA where Liggett would open his night up by timing in seventh quickest with 22 drivers taking a time in qualifications.

Fighting some drivetrain issues in his heat race, Liggett would finish fourth and find himself in the fifth row for the 25-lap feature event.

On a rough and heavy Petaluma Speedway surface, Liggett had to be patient in his fight to the front. Methodically working his way forward, Liggett would climb to fourth just before the checkered flag flew a couple laps early on the scheduled 30-lap distance.

“We got up to fourth, and then there was an accident that ended up drawing the checkered flag as well,” Liggett said. “Our whole team really hopes Margaret Lingron (track official) recovers quickly. Like I said, it was a good weekend for us.”

Austin Liggett Racing would like to thank Excel Environmental Services, Liggett Trucking, Lucas Oil, Tool Technology, Infinity Shocks, Steve Watt Enterprises, Brian Sperry Racing, and Jarrett Soares Racing for their support.

2017 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-24, Wins-9, Top 5’s-19, Top 10’s-23

ON TAP: Liggett is contemplating making the trip to Santa Maria Speedway with the USAC/CRA Series on Saturday night, but if he is unable to make the trip his next race will be on August 12th at Petaluma Speedway in the Brian Sperry Racing No. 51.
