PETERSEN MEDIA: Making his first start with the USAC/CRA Series on Saturday night at Perris Auto Speedway, Austin Liggett would have a very strong showing that resulted in a seventh place finish for the Tracy, CA product.
“It was nice to make our first 410ci start of the season and really have good speed out of the box,” Liggett said. “We just went a little too far for the feature event and were too good too early and dropped some spots at the end.”
Kicking his night off by timing the Excel Environmental Services/Liggett Trucking/Lucas Oil backed No. 83 machine in fourth fastest in qualifying, Liggett would line up in the third row of his heat race.
From the sixth starting position, Liggett had his elbows up at the Southern, CA ½ mile has be made huge strides in the heat and carved his way up to finish third.
Moving directly into the feature event, Liggett would line the Tool Technology/Infinity Shocks/SWE backed entry up in the second row. From his prime starting position, Liggett would immediately jump into the second spot as he chased after the early leader.
Making some great laps in the early stages of the feature event, Liggett would slowly begin battling his car as the track changed during the second half of the race.
Actively moving around the surface to accommodate his car, Liggett would do a great job of maintaining track position inside the Top-10. When the race came to an end, Liggett came home with a respectable seventh place finish against a star studded USAC/CRA field.
“First off I really have to thank my parents for working so hard to get the car finished up, while I had a busy week of work,” Liggett said. “Secondly, it was a good first night out with the 410, and I think we showed we had really good speed and were in the mix in the early part of the race. I gave the guys some bad info and we just lost some spots at the end.”
