PETERSEN MEDIA- Running double-duty on Saturday night at the Thunderbowl Raceway with the King of the West Series and the USAC West Coast 360’s, Ryan Bernal did his fair share of passing that culminated with the Hollister, CA driver finish fourth during the USAC Race.

Kicking his night off, Bernal would time the Mike Phulps Motorsports/Keizer Wheels/DMI backed No. 56 winged car in 17th fastest in time trials, just missing the heat race inversion by .074 seconds, while he timed the USAC car in fourth fastest.

Lining up in the third row of his KWS heat race, Bernal would chase after Bud Kaeding for the fourth and final transfer spot into the feature event, but he was unable to get to him on an extremely fast surface and was forced into the night’s B Main.

Unable to make the call for his USAC West Coast 360’s heat race, Bernal was still able to grad the field from the fifth row. With most drivers using the bottom of the speedway, Bernal was doing all he could to make the top come in, as he spent most of the race with four wheels above the cushion, as he raced his way forward.

Getting into the fifth spot, Bernal would begin to battle with the likes of Richard Vander Weerd and Bud Kaeding as the three non-wing aces raced wheel-to-wheel.

Able to get by Vander Weerd for fourth, Bernal would pressure Kaeding after a late restart, but could not get on the podium as he took the checkered flag with a fourth place finish.

Forced to run the KWS B Main event, Bernal was able to put together 15 strong laps, as he finished third and moved into the 30-lap feature event, though he would line up in the 10th row.

Fresh off of his charge in the non-winged feature event, Bernal didn’t miss a beat as he began working the Thunderbowl just as he did in the non-winged race, and was able to march his way forward.

With passing a little more difficult in the winged feature, the 2015 California Sprint Week Champion was able to crack the top-10 late in the race. As the race drew to a close, Bernal’s machine would sputter and he would be forced to pull off the speedway, and he would be credited with a 15th place finish.

Bernal and the Mike Phulps Motorsports team would like to thank Keizer Wheels, DMI, S&S Automotive, King Racing Products, Metal Works, Hoosier Racing Tires, Core Power, ART Chassis, Tri-L Mandarin Ranch, Tel-Tac, Willwood, Joe Hunt Magnetos, Permatex, Alan Kaiser Construction, Outlaw Graphics, BR Motorsports, FK Rod Ends, STIDA, Rockwell Security, ButlerBuilt, GoScope, 4 Alarm Promotions, and Dean Dealy Motorsports for their support during the 2014 season.

2015 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-45, Wins-10, Top 5’s-23, Top 10’s-28.
