PETERSEN MEDIA- Racing close to home on Saturday night with the Kings of Thunder 360ci Series, Cole Macedo and the Tarlton Motorsports team had a solid night that saw Macedo record a second place finish.
“It was a really good night for our race team, and I’m thankful that the Tarlton family allowed us to run a race close to home with the NARC show getting postponed,” Cole Macedo said. “I felt like we had a shot to win, but Dominic Scelzi was just a little bit better than us on the bottom in the closing laps and that made all of the difference.”
With 23 cars checked into Kings Speedway for their season opening event, Macedo flexed his muscle early as he earned quick time honors aboard the Tarlton and Son Inc./Complete Parts & Equipment Solutions/Executive Auto Sales backed No. 21 entry.
Lining up fourth in his heat race after his time trial effort, the Lemoore, CA native surged to a second-place finish before moving into the Dash where he started sixth and powered his way to another second-place finish.
When the race came to life Macedo settled into second as he chased after Dominic Scelzi as the duo quickly tracked down the rear of the field. As the duo got into traffic, Macedo was able to pressure Scelzi for the top spot by the 10th lap, and briefly raced into the lead on the 12th lap.
In traffic, Macedo got squeezed by a slower car on the 13th lap and Scelzi was able to pounce and retake the race’s top spot.
As the race wore on, the preferred groove shifted to the bottom of the track, and Scelzi had his car a tick better to rotate on the inside berm. Still, Macedo kept his mount well in striking distance and capped the night off with a second place finish.
“I am super proud of this team, and how good we have been in just a few starts this season,” Macedo added. “Excited to race close to home again next week with the 360ci again, as well as with NARC.”
