PETERSEN MEDIA: Following a big break in his schedule mixed in with some weather cancelations, Dawson Hammes was in fine form on Saturday night as he fended off his younger brother and scored his first win of the 2024 season.
“It was a really fun race, and I am super happy to get back into victory lane,” Dawson Hammes said. “I really want to thank my parents for their support at home and at the track, as well as my brother Carson and Aly for all they do to support my racing efforts.”
Hammes kicking Saturday off by timing the Movement Brewing/STS Farming/All About Fire Protection backed No. 55D in seventh fastest in qualifications as he made his first start in several weeks.
Lining up on the front row of his heat race, Hammes got the jump when the green lights flashed on, and never looked back. Racing to the win, Hammes earned the important redraw lock in, where the ‘two’ put him on the front row of the 25-lap feature event.
Just as he did in his heat race, Hammes got off to a great start in the feature event as he powered his way into the lead with younger brother, Carson, in tow.
Putting on a clinic out front, Hammes was methodical and precise in traffic as was able to keep his brother at bay.
Having one slip up in turns one and two, Hammes missed his line, and it allowed Carson to poke his nose under him. Able to get right back on the gas, Hammes kept his lead, and raced on to score the victory.
“TO run with Carson like that was a ton of fun,” Hammes added. “I also want to thank Tony, Ben, and Cole for their help at the track Saturday.”
