Early Restart Turns Andy Forsberg’s Night Upside Down at Placerville Speedway Season Opener

PETERSEN MEDIA: With Mother Nature finally stepping aside and allowing the Sprint Car season to come to life at Placerville Speedway, Andy Forsberg and company made the trip to the familiar facility. Having a good night going, an early restart saw contact ensue to Forsberg’s mount which caused him to spin and gently tip his car over and dash the night head going.

“It was great to finally get the season going at Placerville Speedway,’ Andy Forsberg said. “Despite the weather, the RMI team had the facility in great shape, and my guys had a good car under me all night long and things were going well until a lap six or 7-restart.”

Utilizing the new Sprint Car Challenge Tour format at Placerville Speedway in 2024, Forsberg was in flight ‘B’ for time trials, where he earned fast time honors aboard the Oroville Tax/Wilkie Masonry/Pacific Highway Rentals backed No. 92 mount.

Lining up fourth in the third heat race, a Top-4 finish was needed to lock into the feature and the redraw, but if Forsberg could pick up the win in his heat, it would lock him into a front row starting position in the feature.

Netting a third place finish, Forsberg was securely into the feature event and the redraw where the four lined him up in the second row of the 30-lap feature event.

Jumping into third when the race came to life, a couple of early stoppages put the field in double file formation for a pair of restarts.

Getting a good jump from the inside of the second row on a lap four restart, Forsberg was able to apply heavy pressure to race leader Isiah Vasquez for a pair of laps until the caution flag flew again on the sixth lap.

Setting up for another battle again with Vasquez and Shane Golobic, things took a turn on this restart as contact ensued when the field raced into turns one and two, and it resulted in Forsberg spinning around and another bit of contact got his car to lay over on it’s side to bring out the red.

Making a trip to the work area, the PCH Racing team thrashed as much as they could to could the Auburn, CA driver back out on the track as he was able to restart with a battered car.

With some bent front end components, as well as a smashed left sideboard, Forsberg capped the night off with a 16thplace finish.

“Not quite sure what happened on the restart, but all of the sudden we were in a spin cycle and then I was on my side,” Forsberg said. “The guys did what they could to get us back out, but there’s not too much you can do from the back with some bent up equipment.”

Andy Forsberg and PHR Racing would like to thank Meridian Cameras, Pacific Highway Rentals, Oroville Tax, Wilkie Masonry, Western Traffic Supply, PitStopUSA, Red Line Oil, FK Rod Ends, Autism Awareness, Parking and Transportation Group, Western Featherlite, 1st Vanguard, Highway Specialty Co., and KBJ Catering for their continued support.

BY THE NUMBERS: Races-6, Wins-0, Top 5’s-1, Top 10’s-1
