PETERSEN MEDIA: An extremely slick track greeted Andy Gregg and his Russell Motorsports team on Saturday night in Placerville, CA, and after a pair of sixth place finishes, Gregg and company earned a third place finish.
“Things seemed to go our way a little on Saturday,” Gregg said. “Last week I said we had the speed, just needed some different luck, and this week, we were able to grab a top finish.”
19 cars checked into the Placerville Speedway on Saturday night, and Gregg bested them all in time trials, as he set the standard aboard his Capitol Ace Hardware/Thompson’s Toyota/New Gen Landscape Manage backed No. 14R.
Lining up in the second row of his heat race, Gregg and company had Nail It Roofing/Carroll Russell Bookkeeping/Arnold’s For Awards machine dialed in, as he was able to work his way up to a second place finish, safely putting him in the redraw.
Finding himself with the seven pill, the Placerville, CA native would line up in the fourth row of the 25-lap feature event. Extremely slick track conditions saw Gregg go to the high-side of the speedway, as he planted his right-rear on the cushion and began his charge forward.
Despite getting over the cushion, and off the track at one point during the race, Gregg would have his elbows up for 25-laps as he worked his way to a third place finish, as he chased Greg DeCaires and Jimmy Trulli across the finish line.
“It was a tough track to pass on, but fortunately my guys worked hard and got me a car that was good enough to make speed on the cushion,” Gregg said. “I made a little mistake and got over the cushion, but we were all really pleased with our finish.”
