PETERSEN MEDIA: Dawson Hammes returned to action on Saturday night as he was back at the familiar Marysville Raceway where he charged to a third place finish.
“We have had a couple of tough weekends as of late, and I’m happy to get a good finish and have a solid night,” Hammes said. “We started off a little sluggish early in the night, but we came to life when it counted in the feature.”
With 17 cars checked in on Saturday night, Hammes got the night underway by timing the Movement Brewing/STS Farming/All About Fire Protection backed No. 55D timed in 10th fastest in qualifying time trials.
Lining up fifth in his heat race, Hammes jumped into fourth when the green flag was displayed to the field. Running in fourth, Hammes moved into third with a little luck as another car got out of shape in front of him and was able to hang on and finish there.
Moving into the feature event, Hammes took the green flag from the 10th starting spot on a surface that stayed racy all night long. Having some good fortune with cautions falling, Hammes was able to take advantage of restarts as he raced his way into the Top-Five.
Running in fourth during the closing stages of the feature event, Hammes was able to get by Brad Bumgarner to secure the final spot on the podium and cap his night off with a run from 10th to third.
“I want to thank my Mom, Dad, Carson, and Ally for their continued help and support weekend after weekend,” Hammes added. “I also want to thank Cody for coming out to help during an off weekend for him. Hoping we can build on this as in the races to come.”
