PETERSEN MEDIA- Getting a couple of races in before heading to East to help his brother, Richard, during the USAC Eastern Storm, Jace Vander Woord picked up an eighth place finish with the USAC West Coast 360 Series a night after rallying to a 14th place finish during the ‘Battle For the Milk Can’ Opener at the Keller Auto Speedway.

“We had good cars both night’s, unfortunately the driver happened to get in the way,” Vander Weerd admitted.

After a couple of weeks of from winged racing, Vander Weerd strapped back in his Vander Weerd Construction/Stonegate Development/Battery Worx No. 88v machine on Friday night for the ‘Battle For The Milk Can’ opener, and promptly timed his machine in second fastest.

From his third row starting position in his heat race, Vander Weerd would finish in the fifth spot, and get his time back heading into the feature event. With the six pill being pulled for the inversion, Vander Weerd found himself in the sixth starting position for the 30-lap feature event.

On the opening lap, Vander Weerd would get off the racing surface, and slide to the back of the pack. On a very unique racing surface, Vander Weerd would show patience, as he worked his way forward a few positions and finished in the 14th spot.

Saturday night, Vander Weerd and company shed the wings and hit the Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, CA to race with the USAC West Coast 360 Series.

Timing in fourth fastest, Vander Weerd would then finish fifth in his heat race and grid the field from the second row. When the race came to life, Vander Weerd would again get out of shape in the firs corner on the first lap, but was quick to gather his machine back up as he continued on in the Top-10.

Working around the high-banked 1/3 mile speedway, Vander Weerd would continue in the Top-10 as he would take the checkered flag with an eighth place finish.

“I just made two mistakes on the first lap of both features, and it cost us,” Jace Vander Weerd admitted. “It was nice to have two very good racecars, I just wish I could have got the finishes the team deserved.”

Jace and his Vander Weerd Racing team would like to thank Vander Weerd Construction, Stonegate Development, Battery Worx, Mid-Valley Pipe, Basic Industries, Steve Watt Enterprises, FK Rod Ends, PXP Raceway and K&N for their support in 2015.

2015 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-17, Wins-0, Top 5’s-2, Top 10’s-12.

ON TAP: Jace will take a week off as he now travels to the East Coast to help his brother, Richard, as he competes in the USAC Eastern Storm with the AMSOIL USAC Natioanl Sprint Car Series.
