PETERSEN MEDIA: Saturday night in Placerville, CA Justyn Cox got out his broom as he clean swept the program at Placerville Speedway to grab his first feature event win of the season.

“It sounds a little repetitive, but we have been really fast this season, and it’s nice to finally have something to show for it,” Cox said. “We figured something out last week at the SCCT show here, and it worked out well for us again.”

With 20-cars checked into the pit area for the track’s regular season opening event, Cox would go out dead last during time trials and end up with the fast time award on this night.

Lining up in the second row of his heat race, Cox would see a little luck go his way as the front row would be penalized for jumping and he would move up one row. Getting the jump, Cox would be untouchable in the heat as he would lead every lap and make himself eligible for the redraw.

With the two-pill in his hand, Cox would put the Berco Redwood/Berry Lumber/Trex sprinter on the front row of the 25-lap feature event alongside perennial favorite, Greg DeCaires.

When the race came to life, Cox would get the jump and lead the first few laps before the race’s first caution flew on lap four. Nailing the restart, Cox would again be in cruise control out front until the second and final stoppage came on the 11th circuit.

Again nailing his restart, Cox would look strong out front as he left the field in his wake. With the battle for second heating up, Cox would continue to grow his lead until Steven Tiner got the spot and began giving chase.

One tense moment in the closing laps would see Cox bobble a bit, but he would remain calm, stab the throttle, and race on to his first victory of the season.

“Placerville is a little more special than other tracks because I grew up watching races there in the stands,” Cox added. “It is really special to come back and enjoy a win on the front stretch in front of the rowdy crowd that always packs the place.”

Friday night Cox was also in action as he competed with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour.

Timing in second fastest in his qualifying group, Cox would find himself in a spirited battle with Ryan Bernal for the third and final transfer spot. On the racy Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, CA, Bernal and Cox would go back and forth for the spot, with Cox finally losing the battle and finding himself in the night’s ‘B’ main.

Getting caught in a bit of a bottleneck when the semi came to life, Cox would fall from the sixth spot outside of the Top-10 as the field finally shuffled out. Feeling a tire going down in the early laps, Cox would think better of the situation and take his Cox Family Racing machine back to the pit area and end his night.

“After how Friday went it was great to get a win on Saturday night and hopefully build some momentum up for our race team,” Cox said. “We are getting better nightly, now its just putting complete night’s together and getting those good finishes.”

The Cox Racing team would like to thank Berco Redwood, Berry Lumber, Trex, PM Truck Repair, Justice Brothers, K&N, LRB, Konnected, A.R.T., Sacramento Theatrical Lighting, EyeLusions, All American Powder Coating, Coos Bay Speedway, Swimming Pool Perfections, Tim’s Hot Rod Shop, Shell Shock, Moyle Race Engines, and Manzer Motorsports for their support in 2017!
